The Heene family had the world transfixed Thursday when reports surfaced that son Falcon, 6, may have floated away in a runaway balloon that had been tethered in the family's backyard.

Almost immediately, curious Web searchers began to wonder more about the boy's family. The Huffington Post explains that the Heenes were once featured on the ABC reality show "Wife Swap."

According to the show's official site, the Heenes are a "science-obsessed" family. The site goes on to explain that the Heenes devote time to science experiments that include "looking for extraterrestrials and building a research-gathering flying saucer." A March 2009 article from the Los Angeles Times, which ran during season 5 of "Wife Swap," notes that father Richard "anchors the family."

Web searches on the incident are soaring. Currently, lookups on "boy in balloon," "boy trapped in balloon," and "heene family" are all generating tremendous interest and concern. Also of interest — the balloon itself. When it initially appeared, some wondered if it might be a flying saucer.

At the time this piece was published, it was reported that the boy had climbed into a box attached to balloon. However, the basket was not found at the crash site.

Who cares if people think the family is strange for loving science. I am sure if your family was put under the microscope you might look strange too! I am hoping that the boy will be found hiding somewhere and has not fallen to his death!!!!

The news man asked the little boy if heard his dad calling his name, "why didnt he come out of hiding".. the kid :{ brat said to his dad, " you said we' did it for the show "....

They did it for publicity. It was a hoax. They need to be fined and cited for falsely fabricating such a story. The kids were acting really strange on the interview on Larry King. The middle kid kept coughing., the alledged lost kid was playing like he was dead and he was limp, pretending to be dead., The mom, was posing her hand trying to be a 'model'. My gosh, they are teaching the kids to lie. Hope they prosecute them for faking this disaster.

the kid and his dysfunctional family all should go to the slammer for doing this. He stated he did it for the show (the daddy and mommy planned to scam all of us).. Horrific.

6 year old kids can't stay in one place for 2 minutes, let alone 2 hours.

It is clear it is a hoax. Many children that age will tell you like it is. He forgot to keep his secret. It costs tax payers money when officials have to rescue anyone. That is the first reason that this family should be fined. The father obviously cared more for his publicity than the public. The sad thing of it is that he puts his children at risk frequently and used his son.

I think we should put the dad in the dang thing and let it go.... I feel like a fool for spending all that time watching it. It was a hoax and I think that they should have to pay for the manpower that was used for this.

I think they need to pay for all the people who were out spending time looking for the boy.Im sure they had better things to do. They need to take this off the air, maybe parents enjoy all the attention.....
