Puppy Love: Web Responds to Presidential Pooch
by Claudine ZapApr 15, 2009
Now that the Obamas have welcomed Bo, the newest and fluffiest occupant to the White House, the Web is drooling for more dirt on the presidential pup.
Queries on "obama dog" are bounding up the Search box by over 22,000%. The breed is also causing some big wags on the Web, with lookups on "obama portuguese water dog," "portuguese water dog breeders," "portuguese water dog pictures," and "portuguese water dog rescue" all soaring.
The Porti, a gift from Sen. Kennedy, appears to like romps in the grass and head scratches. But Bo also brings some mad skills. According to Us Magazine, the first pup knows how to sit, shake hands, roll over — and responds to the "off" command, as in, get off that priceless White House antique!
While only a member of the family for a short time, Bo already has the presidential seal of approval. Said Obama yesterday, "He's got star quality." The pup must also have a great sense of humor, as he already endured some razzing from "The Daily Show." Fake news anchor Jon Stewart called "Bobama" the "first openly gay" dog at the White House. You can see the video here.
But the family dog passed the most important test of all from his potentially toughest critic. Ten-year-old Malia Obama told the press, "I love him, he's perfect." If Search is any indication, she's not alone in her assessment.
