The Buzz Weekend Recap
by Jon BrooksApr 5, 2009
This weekend, the world goes ballistic after North Korea launches a missile, and a trio of fatal shootings horrifies the country. On the much, much lighter side, quarterback Tom Brady and supermodel Gisele Bündchen re-tie the knot. These are just a few of the stories that Buzz users found the most compelling...
North Korea Missile
North Korea is not exactly the buzziest country in the world, but this weekend it managed to create quite a stir by launching a rocket that many believe is a long-range missile test. North Korea claims it only sent a satellite transmitting "revolutionary songs" into space. The Pentagon says whatever it was, it landed harmlessly in the Pacific Ocean. Nevertheless, President Obama and other world leaders condemned the act as a provocation. The Buzz was full of news on the event, including a chronology of North Korea's missile program,a poll on the use of a military approach to eliminating the country's nuclear capabilities, and a survey of its missile arsenal.
A horrific weekend — and month
Much as one wanted to, you couldn't escape news this weekend about a
trio of slayings. On Friday a man shot and killed 13 people at an
immigrant center in Binghamton, N.Y. On Saturday a gunman in Pittsburgh
wearing a bulletproof vest shot and killed three police officers responding to
a domestic disturbance. And the bodies of five children
were found in a Washington state mobile home, shot by their father,
James Harrison, who had just been told by his wife that she was leaving him. In the past month a string of shootings has taken 53 lives in the U.S. Yahoo! News provides ongoing coverage.
Super Bowl QB + Super Model = Super Buzz
What do you get when one of the all-time great quarterbacks marries the
world's highest-paid model? A veritable cornucopia of buzz, that's what. When People magazine reported Tom Brady and Gisele Bündchen had
secretly tied the knot on Feb. 26, the clicks came fast. And when word
broke that the couple had gone and re-nuptialed themselves at a Costa
Rican resort on Saturday, the clicks came furious. But wait, there's
more! A photo agency said two photographers narrowly escaped being
killed when Gisele's security team fired bullets at their car. And a friend of Brady's ex-girlfriend Bridget Moynahan dished to the New York Post about some comments Giselle had made in a Vanity Fair interview about Tom and Bridget's child. And if you can follow all that — gossip hound, we salute you.
