  • The Bush Twins' Open Letter to the Obama Girls

Barack and Michelle Obama aren't the only new residents of the White House. Their two children, Malia and Sasha, will soon have a new home as well. Only a few people in the world know what it's like to be a kid living at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. In an effort to help prepare the Obama girls for the experience, Jenna and Barbara Bush wrote an open letter on what the "new kids" can expect.

Published in the Wall Street Journal, the letter includes advice on everything from how to raise a puppy in the White House to the importance of surrounding yourself with loyal friends. Perhaps the most interesting bit of advice, made all the more poignant by George W. Bush's dismal approval ratings: No matter what the press or comedians say about the president, "remember who your dad really is."

With Obama-mania sweeping the world, that last tip might be tempting to slough off. But in the coming years, as dad's popularity ratings rise and fall, it will be important for any kid to remember. Also important to remember, according to the Bush twins: don't turn down anything. In their words, "go to anything and everything you possibly can." And, of course, have fun (that includes sliding down the White House banister).

I don't like the Bush twins, or the Bush family for that matter, but I must admit that what the girls did was a very nice and unexpected move.
I commend them for that.
Also, may the Obama family have a successful and wonderful time while in the White House. :]

Although, I don't like the Bushes, the twins did a very generous thing to the Obama girls. They warmly welcomed her to the white house, and told them how great life in the White House will be.
I wish good luck to the Obamas! :)

i think the speech obama made was very excelent.i think that the bad comments that were made were from people who dont vote and participate in what goes on in this country. they complain but dont but dont take part helping to change anything.

I don't see how people that don't just love EVERYTHING Obama says are "people who dont vote and participate in what goes on in this country". The people who said his speech was "good, not great" hit it dead on. Just because it comes from Obama does NOT make it automatically amazing. I did not vote for McCain, but I am smart enough to know that Obama doesn't have the midas touch. Everyone loves him now, but wait until he is forced to make an unpopular decision.

his duaghters.well i dont know much about them.
But the letter that they sent, is very nice.
and the part i like the most about the letter
is when they said no matter what the comedians say and society
remeber who your dad really is
and go to games with him, party's, muesums.
Enjoy every bit of it.

God bless the Obama family to be able to carry out all the special duties that will come his way and I know he will. Why not. We have had 43 other presidents to look foward to. So as he has tried to prepare himeself to do the best he can to support our needs we should be happy with it. We are in a time of coming back and we all have to jump in and support the things we feel the strongest about. So that things will be better for not only us but him. Today we all made history and will remember this moment for ever. We have to each take this moment into many many more and just strive to help him in every way possible. Also bless past President Bush and family and keep them with a strong and help them figure out what to do next.

I really don't like the Bushes. But it was very nice of the Bush twins to leave the Open letter for the Obama girls.

Sincerely,

Terry

I know he has promised to eliminate coal producing plants that supply our electric! So i suggest they not allow to have barbeque parties out on the south lawn unless they use gas grills! I hope he does a great job!

It's funny how some of you people comment. I am a Black American and I know, as many do that Barack's nomination, election and subsequent Presidency was a joint AMERICAN effort. I know that the racist and ignorant things that I see on these sites are the views of few. I also know that most of those who did not vote or support President Obama will give him the support and respect that he deserves. To those who won't I feel pity for you. You are very bitter right now and that could lead to sickness and an early death. Pray that you can overcome YOURSELF and give your country and the leader the respect he deserves. With or without you he is in so GET OVER IT!

The Bush family (dad, mom, kids) are a generous and classy family as are the Obamas. We could ALL learn from them. We have to remember that being the President is a huge responsibility (not one I'd want) and the President is a big target for the media. Congress, the media, systems and our collective irresponsibility carry most of the blame for what goes wrong. Bad intelligence (for years!) lead to a war. No one lied. Our current economic problem began in the Clinton years when he tried to do something good by making housing affordable to poor people. The banking system made it bad by allowing and encouraging poor banking principles. The congressional oversight committees were weak in addressing problems for political reasons. I thank President Bush for his service and many good things he did, and I know that President Obama will be a great president as well if he gets the support he needs.

What a nice gesture by the Bush twins.

When Obama wrote an open letter to his daughters, people on the buzz were calling him an "egomaniac" and said he was "using those little girls."

Those people are noticably absent today. And thank god.

I Agree with Danielg it's amazing how people just latch on,if anyone has taken the time to look lately Democrats seem to be no more than soft republicans it is all really the same party, what needs to happen is we need a variety more to pick from. I wish the Obamas and all who enter into this political arena good luck, you'll need it.

Who cares what the bush daughters said, mama will only teach them not to listen to Whites, because Michelle is a Bigot, and actually so is daddy Obama.

That same respect that people are calling for for Obama was very noticeably absent over the last couple years of Bush's presidency, especially yesterday when people were booing him and his wife (very classy move). Those who voted for Obama are calling for the heads of people who say nasy things about him, yet these same people were agreeing with those bashing our nations president for years. Obama dosen't deserve respect yet, he hasn't even done anything except be the focal point of a brilliantly run media-backed campaign!!! I do wish him all the best, though, I'd love to see him be the best president of all time.

Kaieye, Bush had record approval numbers and the support of the world after 9/11. So don't act like people never gave him a chance.

They did, and when he screwed up repeatedly, people stopped respecting him.

So all Obama supporters are asking for is support until you have reason not to. So far the only reasons I hear not to support him are completely unfounded "he's a socialist", "he's a racist." Wait to see what he does.

The Bush's are classy people and George W. did the best he could. Our own country treated him terrible and now those people want us to be nice to Obama. We will but be sure when his bad time comes he will get the same treatment that Bush got. The Presidency of the US should be held in respect whether it is Bush or Obama.

Any President whether Bush or Obama should be treated with respect by the people of the US. We can disagree but the nasty remarks need to stop. I was embarrrased by the public in the way Bush was treated. We can do better.
