This weekend, the long anticipation over Black Friday ended, the BCS picture became a little clearer, and users turned to the Web to monitor the tragic events in India. Read all about it in this week's Buzz Weekend Recap.

    Black Friday is over
To read the news, never before has the health of the nation’s economy rested on your desire during one 24-hour period to buy a big-screen TV. Yes, the Black Friday buzz has lasted many hours after that last cash register ring. Sales increased 3% over last year, but profits were harder to come by. And while shoppers earn an A for effort, they get an F for decorum, as evidenced by the stampeding tragedy at a New York Wal-Mart. Starting now, it’s all about Cyber Monday, and the Buzz is filled with online resources for consumers to exploit. And since you just shopped till you dropped, you might as well click till you're sick. But try to minimize the repetitive stress injuries.

    The Sooners the better
BCS has been big in Buzz for a while now, but interest really heightened this weekend. After No. 2 Texas whipped Texas A&M, and No. 3 Oklahoma beat Oklahoma State, the teams and their fans waited for the polls and computers to render a verdict. On Sunday, they had one: Oklahoma had leapfrogged Texas to move into the No. 2 spot and gain a berth in the Big 12 championship. Alabama, at 12-0, remains No. 1, with final standings to be released next week.

    India tragedy
The terrorist attacks in India and their aftermath have sent millions to the Web in search of information, and coverage of what some are calling that country’s Sept. 11 continues to populate Buzz. NPR, the Wall Street Journal, Salon, Agence France-Presse, and the Times of India are just a few of the sources that Web users have turned to. Yahoo! News also provides ongoing coverage.

    Also buzzing this weekend…

    • Stories abounded about New York Giants wide receiver Plaxico Burress accidentally shooting himself in the leg.
    • The buzz on "Twilight" and its star Robert Pattinson is beginning to wane, but just ever so slightly.
    • Ready or not, here comes Hillary.

Personally, the only reason why the sales are up 3% is because the prices have gone up substantically. Not ot mention as they had made comparisions from the last 10 years, INFLATION people. Prices have gone up. Not the amount of goods they like to say they are selling. Big sales or not, $300 for a 32 inch flat screen is still alot. To me, that isn't a deal at all. IMO.

I agree that it rally wasn't any sales on alot. I went to 7 different stores and come home with 2 bags of clothes. I mainly wanted electronics and I just didn't jump for joy at the prices. At this time in our economy I just don't find worldly things that importatnt. Anyway, I always wait until after Christmas.

My cousin and I have done black Friday every year for the past few years now and after this past Friday I don't know if I will do it anymore. There were no good sales I found nothing! People were running, pushing, shoving (more then normal). I got most of my shopping done at Mervyns which is going out of business. It really was not worth the shopping this year at all.

Businesses pulled out all the stops this year, to boost sales during times of financial hardship for many. They made it worth my while to get out of bed at 4am. I got tons of great deals and didn't encounter any rude people. I guess that's just a midwest thing....If you're going bargain shopping in New England on black friday, pack mace and a stun gun.

Texas should've stayed #2 since they beat OU head to head on a neutral field.

I am afraid for the people who are so caught up in commercialism as a tradition. This appears to be a time for people to reconsider ways to curbe their appetites and examine all things we buy when we don't even have money. I have learned a lot from Dave Ramsey on this to learn not to give in to the dictates of others, but to be in wisdom and thinking ahead.

Are all of these so-called Big 12 fans really arguing for the right to be embarrassed by the SEC? The real national championship game is next Saturday in Atlanta! Who cares which Big 12 team finishes 2nd??

I don't have a 'sick'; how can I get one to click until I'm sick?

That's what the author of this article says to do, 'click till your sick' What a great example of why spell check in the ruin of the English language.... how about click (un)til you're sick....

I cant believe the crap I have heard about this weekend. I have never had the motivation and I knew I didnt have the patience to put up with saving a few bucks menatlity to push, shove, stomp and even in some places, put people in the hospital and kill people for black friday shopping/ Comgrats, you saved a few bucks but depressed others for a loss over a few coupons. You Greedy people suck. If you cant walk into a place respectfully of those aroud you, you are all guity, if you have waited in line and have the ability to ignore those ignorant, line butters who will trample on anyone to save a buck, good for you, I could never put up with the stupidity.

I have a wonderful Christmas without Black Friday and woud rather spend a few xtra hundred bucks then stomp to death a family member that would have joined his family the Christams you runined. Ill never join you, you are rude, ignorant and disrespectful. (exclude the ones who are victums)

Most of the item i find is better price online than instore, avoid the long line and crowded is a big plus, i has to work that day so therefore online my best bet. Price of black friday isn't much cheaper than usual, because most retail has aleady cut the price way before black friday.

I got some good deals at Radio Shack and didn't have to get a ticket, run through the store, or wait in a long line. I bought my stuff and went home and went back to sleep. It was sad about the crowd running down the poor employee opening the door at Walmart. It shows where people's hearts are really at....
