For kids, Halloween is all about trick or treating. For singletons, it's a time to dress up as a sexy (fill in the blank) and hit the town. For everyone else, October 31 is the perfect occasion to settle in with a scary movie.
Blogs and sites that want to help you choose wisely are chiming in with their top horror movie villains and heroes. The blog "Heartless Doll" lists Jamie Lee Curtis' character in the original "Halloween" flick as the top movie heroine. Coming in second was Jamie Lee's mother, Janet Leigh, who played the doomed Marion Crane in "Psycho."
But what of the bad guys? Opinions vary. Some say Freddy Krueger is the best villain of all time. Hecklerspray insists that the honor should go to Michael Myers of "Halloween." Entertainment Weekly takes a slightly different approach, ranking the 20 scariest movies of all time. Their pick? "The Shining." All work and no play...
But horror movies aren't just about comely coeds and lurching killers. They're also about heroes making very predictably poor decisions in the heat of the moment. Moviefone is fed up, so they listed all the clichés that "deserve the axe." Several we agree with whole-heartedly: cars with mechanical difficulties, basement light switches that never seem to work, and spotty cell phone service. As Moviefone wisely wonders, where's the Verizon army when you need 'em?
