It was a weekend of wildly shifting emotions in the Buzz. Horse-racing fans mourned a tragedy at Churchill Downs, an Oscar-winning actor endorsed a presidential candidate, and the trend of A-list starlets going prime time continued unabated. It's the Buzz weekend recap—read it and weep.
Bell Tolls for Eight Belles
The lone filly in this year's Kentucky Derby met a tragic end on Saturday. After finishing second, she broke two ankles and was promptly euthanized, putting a somber face on what is usually a carefree and jubilant event. Searches on the late horse skyrocketed into the thousands and related articles, including this one from Yahoo! Sports, drew hundreds of clicks.
Tom Likes Barack
The world certainly hasn't been waiting on pins and needles to see who Tom Hanks endorses for president. Between Miley's lost innocence and the continuing Wii shortage, Americans already have enough to worry about. Nevertheless, after Mr. Hanks announced that he wants Barack Obama to be the next commander-in-chief, interest in the former Bosom Buddy skyrocketed. An entry from the Huffington Post commanded an award-winning performance in Buzz, and searches on "hanks obama" posted impressive gains.
Lohan Goes Ugly
Following in the footsteps of fellow trainwreck Britney Spears, Lindsay Lohan has decided to lend her "talents" to a popular prime-time show. The redheaded hell-raiser will appear on "Ugly Betty" as a friend of the titular character. News of the buxom babe's gig sparked tremendous interest in an article from Us Weekly. Fans can tune in and see Ms. Lohan act her heart out on May 22.
