Among the most popular stories in Buzz this week, a television juggernaut resumed its place as the king of Buzz, a resident of the Pacific Northwest continued to find himself the recipient of overwhelming public attention, and movie fans bid adieu to an epic figure of the silver screen.

"Idol gives back," but keeps all the buzz to itself
Yet again, "American Idol" tops the list of the week's most popular articles in Buzz. Wednesday's two-and-a-half hour "Idol Gives Back" raised money for disadvantaged children, showcased scores of A-list celebs, and somehow forgot to include any of the presidential candidates. But who cares about silly politicians? The philanthropic spectacle trumped in ratings—and Buzz votes. A Huffington Post article on the event soared to the top of our Overall section. In Search, demand for "american idol gives back" surged nearly 27,000%.

The pregnant man, still aglow in Buzz
We can only hope that Thomas Beatie, the transgender man who is six-months pregnant, enjoys the flash of cameras, the roar of the talkerati, and the smack of blog posts hitting the Web—because he's getting them all in concert. Beatie appeared on "Oprah" last week. As of today, he's still one of the most popular topics in Buzz. A search for recent articles on "pregnant man" in Buzz returns a slew of newspaper articles, blog posts, and images.

    Rest in peace, Charlton Heston
The Hollywood giant died Saturday at his Beverly Hills home. Nearly one week later, movie buffs continue to seek his name in Search and boost articles on his career in Buzz. One of the most enthusiastically received stories comes from Yahoo! News. It examines the actor's legacy and speaks to what a "towering figure" he was in the movies, as well as the political sphere. No one will soon forget his battles with Pharaoah's army, tyrannical apes, or Michael Moore.

Also spiking in Buzz this week...

—The #1 story in the week's World section focused on an inquest into the death of Princess Diana. A U.K. jury found that Lady Di and Dodi Al-Fayed "were unlawfully killed because their driver and pursuing paparazzi were reckless—behavior tantamount to manslaughter." The decision is unlikely to carry any penalty, but the verdict rippled across the Web, nonetheless. In Search, "princess diana pictures" leapt 4,397% into our top movers for the week.

—In northern India, a baby born with two faces sparked an enormous amount of attention, and soared to the top of Buzz's World and Health sections for the week. An article from Yahoo! News and a post from WordPress.com drew the most votes. In Search, "baby born with two faces" rose 96,255% to become the fastest moving query of the past 7 days.

—Run, torch, run. Finally, Buzz readers have avidly followed the Olympic torch's beleaguered path from London to Paris to San Francisco and beyond. Protests, secret routes, tight-lipped Chinese security forces, and heated emotions from pro-Tibet and pro-China factions made for one of the most fractious—and fascinating—treks the Olympic flame has yet traced.
