Every once in a while, we add a bit of local flavor to the Buzz. In the past, we've honored New York with a regional breakdown. Now we head to Atlanta for a look at what's shaking down south.
"ATL," a coming-of-age film set in Atlanta, is up 136% this week overall. The flick posts similar numbers in the city for which it's named, up 132% among Atlanta-based searchers.
Switching gears from well-received flicks to well-delivered hits, Georgia democrat Cynthia McKinney is spiking thanks to her brouhaha with a Capitol Hill police officer. The Atlanta native posted an impressive 330% gain following the spat. Interest was even higher in Atlanta, where she was a Buzz Breakout. Will the hot-tempered representative pull a reverse Jesse Ventura, moving from politics to the WWE? Stay tuned.
Finally, proving that countless seasons of playoff disappointment will never dim the city's faith in its team, searches on the Atlanta Braves rose 78% on opening day. "Baseball" also hit it out of the park, up 1,822% overall and a BALCO-esqu 4,239% in Hotlanta.
