About That Ringtone
by Gordon HurdOct 10, 2007
Most people leave their phones set to the default ring. It's those custom ringtones that dominate our personal airspace. In the elevator, the office, a restaurant, or—unabashedly—in the bathroom, the inevitability of an annoying ring in our ears has reached the realm of natural law.
In an effort to better understand those who disturb the peace, we researched Billboard's Hot Ringtones chart. Strangely, none of the top 10 tones currently register in the upper ranks of Search. In fact, only a few pop tunes are ringing bells in Buzz. What popular ringtones in Search, then, are currently rattling others' nerves?
The Buzz Log Top 20 RingtonesSome notes...
- For the unfamiliar, the mosquito ringtone is not audio of buzzing bloodsuckers, but rather a recording in a frequency inaudible to folks over 20 years old.
- Instead of the themes, a handful of these searches are for ringtones featured in a show or movie, including the "24" CTU ringtone and the creepy death-call featured in Japanese horror flick "One Missed Call."
- Normally, we love our friends in the animal kingdom, but we're pretty sure Crazy Frog and cricket are each contenders for most annoying ringtone of all time. What's your pick for the most cacophonous call?
