We don't like computers much. We sit in front of the radiating machines 8 to 10 hours a day, which can't be healthy. And they're constantly crashing on us. But now that Windows Vista has hit the retail shelves, we may change our view on PCs. The new version of the popular operating system may be the incentive our bosses need to upgrade these classic, yet slightly antiquated Commodore 64s.

Even if we don't get an upgrade, we can see many are looking for the scoop as searches for Windows Vista veered up 121% into the top 400 searches over the past week. Queries for "windows vista reviews," "vista upgrade," and "vista requirements" all point to searchers actively pondering an advance into 21st-century technology.

With the dawn of the new OS, many may have also been wondering about the fate of their old versions of Windows. We saw search spikes for "windows xp" (+30%), "windows 2000" (+23%), and even the ancient "windows 98" (+3%).

In true Microsoft style, Vista's release has been a global affair with simultaneous release in 70 countries. But even with inexpensive advanced copies of Vista available from Chinese pirates, we're sure bosses around the world are devising ample excuses to delay an upgrade for their underlings.
