People flocked to the Search box following news of the death of former United States President Gerald Ford. The sad report prompted queries on "gerald ford biography," "gerald ford family," "gerald ford football," "gerald ford funeral," and "gerald ford library."

Searchers also checked out public figures associated with the powerful politician. First lady Betty Ford leads the pack of breakout lookups ("watergate" happens to be the number two breakout). Former Ford administration employees Dick Cheney (+211%), Donald Rumsfeld, and Henry Kissinger bumped up the Buzz, as well as presidential pranksters Chevy Chase (+563%) and Dana Carvey.

But by far, the largest interest has been for the small but influential club of U.S. presidents. Searches on "us presidents" (+1,138%), "presidents of the united states" (+976%), and "presidents" (+916%) skyrocketed shortly after Ford's death was announced. Stand up straight and sing hail to these chiefs…

    1. Richard Nixon (+8,430%)
    2. Ronald Reagan (+3,589%)
    3. Jimmy Carter (+1,413%)
    4. Gerald Ford (+657%)
    1. Bill Clinton (+169%)
    2. John F. Kennedy (+130%)
    3. George W. Bush (+95%)
    4. Abraham Lincoln (+77%)
