Five years ago today, millions shrugged as Steve Jobs announced Apple's entry into the MP3 player market. Pundits wagged their fingers, predicting the iPod would only serve to help piracy proliferate.
The iPod and the iTunes Store made the legal downloading of music ubiquitous. In addition to 99 cent songs, millions around the world squeeze movies, TV shows, podcasts, and games inside the magic little boxes. The iPod single-handedly legimitized the once nefarious act of downloading entertainment.
