We're nostalgic for homecoming. The air turns crisp, leaves begin to fall, and searches spike on "cheap red homecoming dresses" and "how to ask a girl to homecoming." Oh those sweet high school days.
For teenage girls, there is a definite order to getting your homecoming outfit together. First, the dress. Searches on "homecoming dresses" and "homecoming dresses 2006" have skyrocketed since last month (+209% and +470% respectively). The next thing to figure out is the hair. Will it be a weave? An updo? Queries on "homecoming hairstyles" jumped 33% over last week. The old-school style is winning for now, with "homecoming updos" up 93%. Even the parental units are getting into the action: while 41% of searches for updos are by kids aged 13–17, a respectable 33% are from those aged 35–44.
The final touch for the evening is the mum. Searches on "homecoming mums" rose 9% this week. The frilly flower is especially popular in Texas, with Virginia a distant number two. Parents are helping out here as well, with the interest spread almost evenly between the two age groups.
