As much as it greases the wheels of new friendships and extends the boundaries of social networking, MySpace has also proved accomplished at fostering rumors about dead celebrities. The most recent hoax to run rampant across the site—and then jump to the Web at large—is the outright lie that "Boy Meets World" star Ben Savage is dead.

Supposedly, Ben, who is also the younger sibling of "Wonder Years" lead Fred Savage, was driving drunk when he crashed his car, went into a coma, and passed away. In reality, the actor is alive and well and possibly nursing bitter feelings toward his older bro, who always scores a mention in Ben's write-ups, and was never rumored to have prematurely kicked the bucket.

Regardless, Ben's buzz has careened off the chart. Searches on his name zoomed upwards 525% to park in our top 35 movers. An astonishing number of related queries also jamed Search, including "ben savage accident," "coma," "death date," "news," and "obituary." Frantic searchers asked "is ben savage dead?" and "did ben savage die?" Then, just because it came into their minds, they searched on "cory matthews" (his character's name), "boy meets world cast" and, hey, why not, "ben savage shirtless."

To add insult to injury, buzz on "fred savage" and "wonder years" also jumped. Though Ben, if it's any consolation, Fred only saw a 311% rise into the top 4,000 movers. This role was all yours.
