I have spent over two thousand dollars on vet bills in the last six months. I have been on disability since 2004 due to failed spinal surgeries, so I am home 24/7 which is the only way I could have taken care of this cat. But I live check to check. Spending that money on my cat was and has been a painful experience. I couldn't afford it, but I also couldn't live with myself if I put an animal I loved to sleep just because I didn't want to spend my last dime. I had about $4,000 left 6 months ago, I spent half of that on my cat, the other half on medical bills and etc. I don't regret it, my cat probably will die soon, and I probably only gave it another 6 to 12 months more of its life. But who can put a value on that. So I sleep better knowing that in my heart I did the right thing, even if most people look on pets as some accessory that they dispose of when they become an inconvenience.
I we need to look at other factors, so, HD TVs cost over $1,300 would you spend the money on that? I have a friend who spends $650 a month in bars. Others spend that much on the newest video game systems + games. I think that if you can cut something out to pay the bill you should do it. I have never heard of a vet who didn't help someone who was willing to pay. I really find it hard to believe that with a little strategic thinking people couldn't find a way. Remember that old saying, "when there is a will there is a way"
