Six indictments against bottled water

(Photo: Carol Gering / iStockPhoto)

For years, advocacy groups have been raising concerns about bottled water: Not only do bottles end up littering the landscape, and not only are those plastic bottles derived from fossil fuels, but they also may leach chemicals into water and the quality of the water is not stringently monitored.

But many Americans have a healthy distrust of advocacy groups.… » Full Story on Yahoo! Green

It's all Obama's fault. I mean it's Bush's fault. It's funny how everything is politicized.

MAN...MY FAMILY LIVES ON BOTTLED WATER. Personally I hate the crap and the cost already. I drink from the tap, done that for over 40 yrs now and I am not dead. Plus it's FREE!!!

I didn't raise my kid with bottled water, they drink tap water after we chill it in the fridge. Just don't drink RIVERSIDE, CA water, they recycle toilet water and if you filter it, your taking out the chemicals they put in to make it drinkable. So you're drinking straight PISS and BUTT SQUIRT JUICE. "Hello Harvest Church"...you're water is Riverside water, just to let others know.

I got one of those PUR water filter things for my kitchen tap, and people, let me tell ya, it makes my water taste so much better. Mix some of that in with some homemade lemonade or sweet tea, and you got yourself a really nice drink for a hot summer evenin in the shade.

Best tap water I've even drank is in Independence, Mo..hometown of President Harry S Truman. My wife and I spent a year there and were amazed over the quality of the water. We live in Gilroy, Calif. and the water here stinks...lots of calcium and other junk. If Independence can treat their water to taste good, why can't everyone else? Those responsible for their citizens water quality should check it out.

The chlorine in water is more dangerous then what they're spouting about. Get a good filter, for your drinking water and your shower.

This is an attack on bottled water. Clear bottles are not as bad as opaque ones. They're the ones you get your milk in. Nothing being said there. How about we go back to glass?

This whole thing has politics written all over it. More tax? You can bet on it!

Leave me alone! If I want to buy bottled water and someone wants to sell it, what business is it of anyone's to stop this? It's not like it's a dangerous drug or chemical. And tap water is awful in most parts of the country. I dare you to drink the dirty, rust colored water that comes out of the spigots in LA! It smells too!

Going green = foaming out the mouth in raging, insane, jealousy. Leave us alone you envious freaks.

I wonder why no one mentions this: what if a person is allergic to chlorine or something in the city water? How good is bottled water then?

Peace Out, The Compusician

I imagine if you're willing to pay a buck for about a twentieth of a cent of water this article will not mean a whole lot.

Maybe they could do like all those going-Green HGTV shows where they rip out perfectly good flooring and replace it with bamboo, and tear off old wallpaper and use green colored paint instead sending everything out to the local land-fill.

Why not throw away every plastic bottle, and dismantle all the factories making them and start putting water in post-consumer, wax-lined paper cartons like they do milk. They could even use green colored ink for the carton labels with little cartoon Teletubbies espousing the virtues of drinking green water.

I read on Yahoo this morning that bottled water companies don't have to abide by the same quality standards as that of tap water.Did'nt know that. For years,I was drinking bottled water from Walmart. Can't afford it now because of the economy. My tap water tastes fine at my home. Don't think I want to go back to bottled water anymore because of this. Seems everyone is taking a short cut just to make a buck.

Leave regular tap water in the frig, then fill those "Free" water bottle everyone give away at fairs and events, and say screw you bottled water companies.

Well, there you go. Let's put another product/companies out of business. Let's just see how much we can wreck this economy while we're at it. Ain't got far to go and the democrats will have destroyed our country. Funny, you'd think that there have never been democrats in DC before since all of a sudden nothing's right with this country. Where have they been in the past...sucking tit and making money off everything they are condemning now? Get this freak show out of our government!

Where is the outrage about being gouged price-wise all these years by the bottled water companies? Gasoline is cheaper by the gallon, even though it is much more expensive to drill for and to refine than bottled water. Amazing what metros and yuppies will pay through the nose for without any complaint.

This government is a reactionary group which is tied to many off the wall groups. If you drink the water where I come from it tasts like chlorine and has organisms in it because the pipes are ancient. You must buy a special filter to get rid of the organisms. I drink bottled water and like it. I will buy 100 gallons pronto if they pass a law. The idiots!

Now here is another way for the government to move in and tax bottled water, and I am not giving up my “Smart Water.” But it is not the health issue because all plastic storage containers can cause cancer especially when exposed to heat or extreme cold temperature. However, the FDA has never protected the consumers or removed plastic from the grocery shelves. It is difficult to find any food in glass jars, look at the shelves, and how long did it take to remove the baby bottles. You still see food stored in Styrofoam, look at the meat and all fruit and vegetable. It is no wonder there is such a high cancer rate. So all I can see with this publishing they want to tax water.

It's about time! I've been drinking tap water for 59 years and I'm still here. What, so you buy bottled water because it's "safer" and then you use it to wash down a Big Mac and a large fry???? PLEASE!!!
Probably 90% of that crap is filled from a tap anyway. They tack on a hefty price per bottle to lure you all in....Give me a freakin' break!
Drink tap water and use the $ you would have spent on water to go on vacation! Wisen up, fools!

I just got back from a trip up the Nile. You wouldn't believe the number of water bottles floating in that river! The tourist dollars are important....the environment??????? Jordan was equally as interesting.....plastic bags in the remotest of places.
