Be careful about where you work as a tester...some companies treat their testers like dirt and have a policy to NEVER hire out of the tester pool...ask questions before wasting your time. (and often self esteem)
Also, I don't know if this blogger has ever read the Blizzard Terms and Conditions for World of Warcraft, but selling your account is against the terms and conditions, thus possibly leading to a ban of your IP address. Idiot blogger.
I knew about game testing and becoming pro, but the others were new to me. Good info to have at a time like this.
better than nothing... i mean lots of ppl out there waste their time playing games...but w/the help of this article..they will make their time useful than nothing at all.
i think its much better if u include which website they should inquire.
WHERE DO I SIGN UP I'VE ALWASY WANTED TO BE A TESTER EVER SENCE I SEEN THAT MOVIE "GRANDMA'S BOY"...
I was going to mention the same thing on Warcraft, that if you even ask about selling either gold or items for real cash, and Blizzard catches wind of it, good luck getting another account since I believe (a friends sister is an employee) that they actually block the game from even logging in from the same IP address or something along those lines. They will also cancel the original account and not refund anything that was paid on it. Part of the terms of agreement that they make you "agree" to every time they run a patch or update.
This is one of the most inaccurate articles I have ever seen. First off, #2 is against Terms of Service. Secondly, being a GM blows. Most players think you are a lazy slacker on a power trip, when the truth is that you are bound by a lot rules and script reading. Also, while being pro sounds fun it is hard to get to that level of skill, and being 2nd or 3rd doesn't give you enough to live off of.
The only real truth is being a tester. It's a lot more planning, and work than what this article says, but it's pretty fun.
I love this! Video Gamers Unite! We can finally make some cash off of what we love to do. Well at least I can bc I am good at it. I checked out that BringIt.com and played some noobs in UFC and COD 4. Pretty straightforward and I am up $50 in a day. My name is hollyWooD on BringIt if you wanna game for Cash.
Jonathan Fatal1ty is really a name of the past in gaming. Now he only puts his name on equipment for PC's im really surprised that they left out Tom Taylor. He is the poster boy and one of the greatest gaming leauge of all time (MLG) his team made over $140k just in tournament winnings. God only knows what his sponsers pay him.
If we're going to talk about becoming a tester, couldn't you provide legit tester sites? I'd love to become one but I can't find real ones.
Ironically enough i just got my money from mlg like 2 days ago for the r2 tourney :) and towards the people that want to test games you first have to start getting into open betas and look on individual games website before you every are going to get in closed betas
This is awesome!I wish I knew where to apply! They should pay more though. Finally,we get paid for doing what we like best!!AWESOME!!!!:)
i too wonder how do you become a game tester, it is great to say companies need testers, but where do you go, how do you get started? Anyone, anyone?
To become a tester, just jump in with electronics temp. agencies (Volt) and tell them what you are interested in. Gaming companies like Epic use Volt employees to test their games. Check the credits for UT and GOW. That's exactly how I got into it and it really wasn't that difficult, as long as you can pass a test with the agency proving that you can spot clitches and errors.
I think all these games are a waste of time...you don't need much brain power to play them ....that's why the "game player" kids in school get such awful grades!!
If you get asked or apply to be a GM legit think before accepting or applying its fun at first but then it gets absolutely boring.
140k isnt much wild, good counter-strike teams make about 300k a year. good idea for an article though dont see too much about pro gaming even though its pretty big these days.
I think you all should check out Major League Gaming :] Its fun, very competitive, and you make friends along the way :), o ya, you can also make 20 grand at the championships
You can also make Machinima. You can make real money if you make movies with your video games and sign a contract with machinima.com
I'm an experienced customer service rep. and love to work with people, and am an experienced gamer (shouldn't make that too public! Embarrassing!) but why can't I be a GM from home. Sheesh, I'm not moving to Texas for that.
