Beware Conficker worm come April 1

In an event that hits the computer world only once every few years, security experts are racing against time to mitigate the impact of a bit of malware which is set to wreak havoc on a hard-coded date. As is often the case, that date is » Full Story on Yahoo! Tech

Who the hell are these malware creators???? Computers are now a tool for survival for our system and the well being of the revenue generating elements of our society. There should be a mandatory LONG prison sentence for anyone convicted of these things. And don't these bastards have anything better to do with their lives than to detract from the society they live in??? What a pack of animals. How many online companies are started by people who barely make ends meet as it is??? Then these idiots come along and destroy the little guy??? Like they can afford new equipment (even a cheap computer) when theirs crashes??? These guys are CRIMINAL and vicious. They should flog these a$$holes publicly when they catch them.

Its very sad to think that someone gets their kicks at the expense of someone else. People are having a hard enough time with their lives, why would anyone knowingly make it worse. Some sub humans have too much destructive time on their dirty hands..Prison sounds like a wonderful place for them as Factotum pointed out!

I sit and wonder what the ramifications of this worm could do. As others have said the loss of income and personal information. Do we know if legal information on criminals and terrorist could be lost . In it's own way this could be seen as a terrorist act. Pretty scary to think your computer could betray you in a millisecond. Good luck to all.

only morons and stupid people get viruses, spyware, worms and the like. i work in the software/pc industry and make big bucks to fix computers that idiots mess up because they're too stupid to read what they are clicking on and giving the system permission to install. keep doing stupid s*** people so i can continue to make bank cleaning up after you.

How do we know this is going to hit? If we know it's to be released, doesn't this information tell us who is doing this and how to stop it?
Is this just Y2K all over again and nothing happened then? Hmmmm...maybe the makers of antivirus software love this kind of thing...it only takes one match to set the whole forest on fire. Know what I mean?

Acts of this sort should result in mandatory jail time and a heavy fine. The judges have been far too lenient with these lowlifes in the past and it is time to invoke stiffer penalities!

I bet all these "worms" are CREATED by Microsoft...think about how much profit they stand to make by repairing/replacing infected computers and software! Tell me this: how does Microsoft KNOW a worm will strike April 1, describe it, but then has no idea who/where it's originating from? A huge reward is set--because Microsoft knows the "hacker" will not be discovered, and seeks to make people think that Microsoft would stand to LOSE by worm/virus attacking people's pc's nationwide. The ultimate April Fools scam to sell software, seems to me...

If this thing is for real, I don't want it. I don't have administrative rights on this computer and so I was unable to install updates (it wanted them) and yes it got Malware. It took a little while for our office tech support to isolate it. He couldn't get rid of it, he just "trapped it" by renaming the user file. Haven't seen it since thank goodness!
The scary thing is that I didn't visit any foreign websites at all, so I'm not sure what happened. Just goes to show that the computer can get infected without a clear source of the virus/ Malware. That was the first time that has ever happend!

Personaly, I think this is just a huge joke. It just so happens that this will happen on april 1st? Highly unlikely. this could be just a news feed to get people to be more aware of their person security on the computer. but if this is true, what person would spend their life creating a worm that will cause millions to loose even more money than what they've already lost in the october crash. i hope they find this person before april first, and shuv his head up a USB port.

Easy Solution...BUY A MAC! Quit supporting a company like Micoshaft whose founder is more interested in pest control than technology.

Sure a Mac may cost a bit more, but it doesn't break within 1 year and if you need help you can actually speak to an "American" in tech support, not some guy name Steve in India!

Having had to get computers replaced due to viruses and hackers I am so very fed up with all of this. It truly makes you wonder where these viruses are coming from. How is that a hacker has more expertise than a company such as Microsoft? Things that really make one go hmmm.

People are so very evil at times.

If so much is know about this "Conficker worm" then why hasn't someone been able to fix it already or to get to the source of it already? It is like "there is a problem coming your way, but we cannot do anything about it"? What are all these people doing since it became know about however long ago?

If you don't want it, just use firefox browser, run up to date antivirus software. If your cheap use avast anti virus it's free and works great. Don't open spam email, don't click on ads on myspace or just stay off myspace, don't go to porn sites, It's not like it's rocket science.

If this thing eats my hard drive I'm going to be so upset. I have a 10 year old IBM Thinkpad. I know it's old, but it was given to me and I've been trying to take care of it. So anyway, I already had my hard drive crash like two weeks ago because it was old.So it's running again, and I added our spyware and Office 2007 and pop-up blockers on both internet explorer and firefox, but it's still getting pop-ups...I don't know where they are coming from. I haven't even done anything to get a virus. I mean I go on my regular sites, but they don't have virus's. I just don't know what I'm gonna do. I know that I'm going to send this article to everyone person that I know that works or uses a computer! I HATE YOU VIRUS WRITERS! I hope that if they catch you they send you to prison for life. I hope we all make it through April 1st. Good luck!

i agree will, using technology bares responsibity of the user, for children they should be taught.i also find it funny that the one comment that makes sense, yours, gained so many thumbs down. Shows a society that wants everything done for them, with no effort on their part. I see the same people drive their car into a flooded stream and wonder why they get swept away even though the warnings are stated every year. BTW when you buy antivirus you have to renew your lease every year.

OH lets not forget out lesson on firewall protocol (use it) 2nd learn how to navigate to the virus on your PC, its simple type its name in your search files and navigate to its folder and hit delete, if any of this sounds confusing than odds are you should not be using a PC in the first place. Would you want you rpilot to have never had a flying lesson? hmmm maybe society needs a lesson or two like this, if this is such a tool for some of you, dont you think you out to learn how to use it? Dont you think the carpenter knows how to use his saw and hammer and knows the building codes? For those who hate the virus writer, you must know thats how the internet was created in the first place. The govt wanted a system that would operate even if 95% of its network was destroyed, what we got was the internet that is designed to search for any pathway to its address no matter its route (tcp/ip protocol) so lesrn the lingo, no whats happening and have fun
