How many dominicans pay for all that salary AROD has made?( buying the tickets, purchasing the merchandise etc...) How many United States citizens have given their hard work earnings to see him play, supported him? Go back there and play full time. (and take Madonna with you)

Why all the hatred for Arod. He's the only player who earns his money. His problems aren't any more that all the other players. He'll be the home run champ when he retires and god know how many other records he'll obtain. Relax and enjoy him because soon enough, he'll be gone. Had you rather cheer for Barry Bonds? Most of you idiots don't even care about baseball. Grow up, quit bitching, and find a girl friend or boy friend,,,whichever you prefer,,,,,,,,"not that there is anythng wrong with that"""""(seinfeld)

As for "love of country" Most olympians, currently, don't care about country.. They are in it for the money. In the old day, when they couldn't make money,,, it meant something.. now it's just another marketing tool.. so get off your high horse,, no celebrities do anything for country,,,it's all about the money...!

wow, this was actually most suprising bcuz i am a huge fan of Dodgers and Yankees and A-Rod too, regardless for me with his big salary, Yankee fans are probably kind of mad right now. He should definitely re-consider his choice.

As long as we compensate otherwise useless lumps of humanity like these athletes/actors/entertainers so outlandishly, we will see these sort of results. This isn't about A-rod, this is about our nation's completely screwed up priorities.

What's amazing is that anyone is surprised by this. Of course he wants to be a hero to all the upcoming players from the DR. This way he'll have fans for years to come. Self-serving and unsrprisingly believeable! Sad, sad, sad....

I can tell you from experience that being a Dominican who was born in the United States is difficult. I love the United States particularly NY but I also appreciate that my family raised us in the typical Dominican fashion. I don't blame A Rod one bit in his decision (and mind you I can't stand him). For the most part A Rod has been a sell out in the eyes of most Dominicans so its about time he did something to represent. We might have been born here but we don't forget what our family instilled in us and their struggles.

Shame.........shame.........shame......on you. If you feel that strongly about it, then give back the $$$ the good ole US has given you in salary. There are lots of Americans who can use the $$ right now.

I don't understand why everyones making such a big deal over this! He wants to get back to his heritage and celebrate it! whats so wrong with that? just because he lives in america doesnt necessarily make him "american." he's dominican-republic american. hes still has to keep his ties to his "home." I completely agree with Mskity!

even though he was born in the US, his heritage is Dominican! he is not a trader to the US or American Baseball. Let him play where ever he wants. I am not a fan of the Yankees or A-Rod. I'm a Dodgers fan. Let the athletes choose where they want to play. Many soccer athletes do, there is nothing wrong with it in my eyes.

OK as a person who is from the Dominican Republic AND also a US citizen you people need to stop hating. Yea he;s not my fav player at all he's not of my liking but you kow what he has the right to choose. He played for the US in the last classic so whats wrong with him playing for the Dominican Republic. America also stands for UNITY and DIVERSITY people so stop being so damn racist and let the man be. And yea ORTIZ and RAMIREZ will represent DR too most likely so ya need to shut the f*** up and let Dominican players represent their country as well.. They earn their money just like anyomne else does. And if you don't like it then don't spend ur money on it matter fact don't even watch the classic. you people make me sick let the man be! You want to claim your american all the way and what not but are u really representing what AMERICA is... and yea go ahead give me thumbs down i can care less.. but as a DOMINICAN AMERICAN you people make me sick!

Relax everyone Its just a game he's not going to fight for Dominican Republic He's just going to play there, and I'm sure that most first generation Americans feel very close ties to both cultures. I know I do

I am Dominican born, and a Red Sox fan, and I hate ARod on so many levels and will not be the one to defend him. With that said, people need to get over themselves and realize that while he's made millions of dollars, he's earned his money through his talent and contributions to the team, and it's not like the average U.S. taxpayer is contributing to his salary, so while he got his shot here, it's not like he owes anybody anything.

His money comes from the billions of dollars that the owners of his team make, in large part, because of his popularity as a player, and team success. I don't see anything wrong with him wanting to represent his heritage, however, the fact that he's switching sides, makes him look very desperate to make amends to a very tarnished image, and in my opinion, foolish.
