Comments made by a couple of the older drivers sort of sum up my feelings about what NASCAR has done with the rules. In victory circle Mark Martin said that the double file restarts were initiated so that the fastest car didn't always win, Right on, Mark. like that and sometimes The rule makes for closer racing, yeah. I tend to like it when the fastest car wins. Martin was obviously the class of the field. If Mark had not won it would have been a travesty, he dominated the race. And Jeff Burton had a VERY legitimate complaint. Ever since the "shootout" style restarts have been used his car has been involved in a crash that was not his fault in every race. He has fallen completely out of contention for The Chase. The new rules just make for more chances for somebody to get hurt or killed. And it's costing an awful lot of money to fix or replace all these wadded up race cars. Maybe the double file starts ought to go back to the quarter mile tracks.
The fastest car didn't always win way before the double-file restart rule anyway. That's why crew chiefs get paid. If you can't out-race them, out-strategize them. I root for Burton, but look... if your team had its stuff together, you would be running up front and not in the back getting tangled up in somebody else's mess.
I applaud the shootout style. Every car races for position. Even the 2 or 3 down lappers in the back.
I've got to bring this up... beside a certain popular driver's misfortunes this year... can any of the writers at Yahoo Sports tell me why:
The WHOLE ROUSH SQUAD is tanking and not getting laid bare by the media?
Woul Love to See Martin go ahead and win the Championship..There's No Better Sportsman out there than he .. Good luck !!
another boring 1 1/2 mile race track. i could hardly stay awake. at least we had some racing on restarts, for a couple of laps.....
Way to go Mark. Couldnt happen to a better sport and all around nice guy. That restart showed that he earned the win no ifs and or burs about it. Jeff says he spun his tires and that is as good of an excuse as any. Glad to see Jeff up there also. He needed that. Congrats to the couple who won the million dollars also.
