Two-thirds 'falsely' believe Medicare would not pay anything ... meaning Medicare DOES pay folks! As the article says 'none of the private insurers' pay 100% of cancer treatments. This healthcare reform is a blessing for all of US. If the insurance companies are afraid of competition who cares? They've been grossly over-charging all of US since the beginning of time! It's about time they had competition!
I think we all know people that were financially wiped out by illness. I was told by an insurance agent that no matter how much coverage I bought, I would still have out of pocket payments. The number one rule he told me when it comes to health care in this country is don't get sick and die quickly. You don't have to believe me, why don't you talk to an insurance agent who is a friend and ask them.
This is how the insurance companies’ CEOs are spending our premiums to line their own pockets and buy off our congressmen. Oh, and by the way, the PRIVATE INSURANCE MAFIA has also invested $4.5 billion dollars of our premiums in the tobacco industry.

Put the PUBLIC HEALTH CARE PLAN option on the table and force the private insurance health industry to compete.
About cancer and medicaid/medicare.
Both my father and my brother had cancer. Neither one had any insurance.
To the best of my knowing, the VA covered my father's care, along with state aid. Neither I or my brother ever got a bill. Mt father died in 1990.
My brother had lung cancer and died in 2008
He had no insurance, and so it was not detected early. After it was found, he recieved the BEST of care at the Renown Cancer Center in Reno, NV.
continued.......................
continuation........
For medications that were too expensive I either got "samples" for him, or the pharma.. company gave it to him for free. (Even the mega expensive marajuana pills)
He finally was granted SSI a month before he died. He worked hard all of his life, and until the SSI check HAD NEVER recieved welfare.
Neither had my father, until he got his Soc Security when he reached retirement age.
The point I am trying to make, is that the system DOES WORK, if you are sick, and have no insurance, go to the E.R.
The squeaky wheel gets the grease. My brother was at first misdiagnosed at a substandard rural NV emergency room.
This was not because of lack of insurance. IT IS BECAUSE DOCTORS DON'T WANT TO WORK IN RURAL AREAS.
When it is 60 miles to the nearest Wal-Mart................
I have never gotten a bill for my brother's care either.
How much you think a drip bag of chemo costs? I calculate maybe $10 but the hospitals charge thousands. A nurse sticks the needle in and the solution enters the body. How much time you think a doctor spends going over his patients treatment? About 5 minutes per day, maybe. We need health care REFORM in the USA to stop the price gouging by doctors and hospitals. That is the real problem, oh yeah, did I forget the drug cartels (companies).
So Trpster, what your telling us is the suckers are people who buy health insurance? The people working to keep their homes and taking care of their children while employed. You said neither of these men had insurance, your dad had help from the VA (most people are not vets), your brother sounds like he lived in the middle of nowhere, did he have a house, children, etc. ?
I am all about competition for private insurance companies. We need to remember that the reason things cost, so much is because people sue all the time and uninsured never pay their hospital bills. If/when we get universal HC malpractice law-suits will be a thing of the past, so pray you have a good well rested doctor.
I am 3 weeks out of Prostate surgery. I have/had prostate cancer. I have Aetna ins. They have been great so far. I know that my costs are not a monthly cost, but a lump sum.
All I can say is I have a great piece of mind knowing they helped me.
I could not imagine having the bills come in and know they are all for me. It floors me each time i see the EOB.
This might have something to do with insurance companys going up to capital hill about 6 weeks ago and admitting that they drop 50% of thier insurees within the 1st year of a major illness. The poor qualify for medicaid the rich can pay it's the middle class who gets screwed and have to declare bankruptcy and loose everything they have worked thier whole lives for.
I find it very interesting that many in the gov't can not trust the average person to buckle his seat belt or not talk on the cell phone while driving without gov't mandates. Yet, some feel we should be on our own when it comes to health care. Something is fishy about this....
I'm a Recovery Cancer Patient, for 6 years. I had Colony Cancer. if it hadn't been for Medicare/Medicaid, I probably would be dead. I got laid off and lost my insurance, the only thing, I was drawing unemployment $250.00 every Two Wks. $50.00 went to the Doctor, But they didnt' run any test, What ever was hurting me, they just give me Sample Medication. Until one day I was just so ill, I called and got an Appointment to get my Colony Checked, behold they found Cancer, Medicare/Medicaid, Paid for Chemo and Radiation, after Surgery Chemo Cont. I atook this Treatment for a year and a half., Every three years now I have my check ups, last year I was clean. We don't know why people are lying and putting out false Reports about Medicare/Medicaid. This is why people should do they own research and not listen to lies. My husband also died from Lung Cancer, he waited to late before he got help.
People are being fed bad information about Medicare/Medicaid, it helped me and with my Chemo and Radiation and Surgery. It also help my husband, but he had waited to late before he went to the doctor, but afterward they gave him the best treatment for the (6) mos. he had left and also Hospice worked with me until his last days, so everything worked for me and other I have talked to. People do your own Research, because these lobbyists are lying. I lost my job, no insurance because couldn't afford to pay the Mo. Premium. Doctors won't even see you unless you have insurance.
