With all the bailouts the Gov't has given these insitutions at taxpayer expense they want to give bonuses to retain these people that helped create the very mess we'rei n right now Come on America Wake Up!!!!!!!!!!
Let the company sink! Yes I know there are jobs and people's fortunes at stake. But a sinking ship would need a new hull (i.e., New people & New Ideas) before sinking more money into this "Money Pit" of a business! (Yes I know AIG is trying to get new people but really most companies such as AIG will not hire these people but only put it into the pockets of the higher paid executives before the dole out the money for new and bright ideas to make this company viable.) I was never rewarded for doing a bad job. I was never rewarded for my company not producing. Let's just get the money back from the Fat-Cats and retrieve what we have already spent on this sinking ship!
Bonuses? They want bonuses? After all the people who've been thrown out of work all over the world by their irresponsible behavior? Giveth me a break! The ripple and cascade effects of AIG's corporate culture & actions helped to precipitate the current economic mess. And now they want bonuses?
They didn't perform good enough to keep the company afloat, bailed out by the government and NOW they get rewarded. When I haven't perfromed my duties in a job I sure didn't get thousands of dollars in bonuses. Let the company go under.
Strange though. Everybody is complaining about the bonuses AIG is looking at paying without wondering about the improper nature of a business having to ask permission from the government. If the government hadn't taken over control and ownership in the first place, we wouldn't be having this conversation. So if you want to blame somebody in this mess, why not our beloved government who kept the system from working properly in the first place?

How can any company employees expect a bonus when they are the ones responsible for the position it is in now. I don't believe they deserve or should get a bonus no matter when it was promised. They did a bad job!!!!
RETENTION bonuses for the idiots who drove this firm into a tailspin.........Only Barney Frank would think that made sense, but he paid bonuses to the brain dead at Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac recently.

This is SO NOT GOOD! We had several shares of AIG stock until last week when they took a very rare reverse stock split. We were reissued stock at 5 for 1. That means, for every 5 shares we owned, we got one in return. Of course, that one share WAS worth more last Friday. This week, the value of each AIG stock share dropped over 50 percent. Each day we see it dwindling to nothing. What a joke! We bale them out with our hard earned tax money, then they screw us from behind by taking our stock without permission or notification, and reduce it to nothing. NOW..I see where they are going with this. We have considered selling, but it is worth so little now it would probably cost us more money for the sales transaction. Talk about throwing money down a black hole...
Pay the bonuses. It is NONE of the governments business. AIG, you are setting a dangerous precedent by asking government permission.
So, they paid bonuses to retain the very same scumbags that drove the company into the ground in the first place? This is why corporate citizenship should be eliminated. If AIG would have been forced to go bankrupt like it should have been, we wouldn't have to deal with this crap now.
They can have the bonuses when A, they pay back all our money PLUS interest and B, the compamy actually has a profit. If it can't meet A and B, they should get NOTHING. These BUMS need to work for their money just like every joe average out there. Otherwise, screw off and find a real job you pond scum sucking bottom dwellers!
That consideration be given to paying out these bonuses to the executives is INSANE. At the very least, it would be rewarding behaviors and practices that has ruined the finances of our country...let alone the way it has touched many American at the personal level. Some bonuses were paid out to keep top executives from leaving, already. Why?? We should have let them walk. To a great extent it was either due to there apathy, gluttony, ineptness that things happened the way they did.
When I see things like this happen the more I think that we, these United States, are going the way of the Romans... to ruin.
are they nuts? let them give the govt (US) all the monies back and then the idiots can give out bonuses. they are totally inresponsible. let them go bankrupt. i do understand is people's jobs but this is ridiculous. people e are working 2 jobs only to make ends meet. i am thankful i have a job and i don't get bonuses.
Enough is enough, already. I've been promised a ton of incentives from my boss and haven't received any of it. Maybe the employees of AIG should be a little bit like me...be happy in the fact that they are still employed in this economic disaster!

thousands of united states kids go to bed hungry every night and aig wants to give bonuses.. same things with pro sports.. getting paid millions to play a kids games and crying about it all the time.. while poor familys are sleeping in the streets.. seems to be something wrong with this.
It really is time to bring back debtors prisons, and throw all of the Wall Street executives and board members in there, starting with the AIG scum.

I would like to know why AIG's employee's deserve a bonus? Is it for the inability to see what problem's they were creating? Or their lack of responsibility in money managment? Or was it for running down the company so AIG could get bailled out? A bonus is paid for a good job done, not for just being there. If AIG's people do not want to accept this reality, let them join the millions in the unemployment line. A line they helped create!
