China city tense after police shooting kills 2 (AP)

AP - Security tightened Tuesday in the capital of China's western Xinjiang region, where paramilitary police blocked access to a Uighur neighborhood where two Uighurs were fatally shot a day earlier, the latest violent clash in the wake of last week's ethnic riots. » Full Story on Yahoo! News

Bravo! Get tough with those terrorists! Anyone who kills innocent bystanders, to achieve political gain, is a TERRORIST by definition!

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan would be well advised to take back his remarks on what has happened in China's Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region.
Mr Erdogan's description of the riots in Xinjiang as "a kind of genocide" is an irresponsible and groundless accusation. The fact that 137 of the 184 persons killed in the riots are Han Chinese speaks volumes for the nature of the event.
Turning a blind eye to what the Chinese government has done to restore order in Urumqi, Mr Erdogan said "we have difficulty understanding how China's leadership can remain a spectator in the face of these events".
These are evidenced by the preferential policies of the central government for ethnic minority groups. For example, the family planning policy applies only to the Han Chinese and never to ethnic minority groups. Candidates for national college entrance examinations from ethnic minority groups get an extra 20 points for their enrollment.

This is a terrorist attack. The western media should abandon coldwar stereotype and stand with Chinese to condemn the violence and brutal killing. Unfortunately, most of them are not brave enough. I have to say that the world peace is still faraway with such distorted views and the war on terror will not be winnable if you think your potential friends are enemies.

The police should shoot the terrorists earlier so that would have had such a disaster.

A Uighur man ...said he has no doubt that there will be more violence.

"This is obviously not something that will end in just one, two or three days," he said, not wanting to give his name for fear of government retaliation. "There are no human rights in China. They catch Uighurs and beat them and take them away and nobody knows."

China's leaders have sought to play down tensions between ethnic groups. As you know China seeks to avoid any human rights related dialogue at all costs. China believes that it's national security is threatened by human rights of it's citizenry. As you know China feels controls are good for people and everyone should enjoy their right to obedience, avoiding individualized activities. As you know Hans have always ruled by forcible control and harsh laws governing non-CPC, non-Han, citizens. As you know the CPC enjoys a wide range of controls.

well you certainly wouldn't think too much about human rights when Muslim people won't allow their women to show their hair in public. It's not about human rights threatening national security, it's about how much freedom we can enjoy without turning China into a big mess. we all realized that sometimes people can be really self-evolved and intolerant, fear of change in their traditional life style, but we don't have to like each other too much at all, we just need to learn to live among each other, that means tolerant. it's a crowded world, living among one another is something we all should learn.

Why I state this kind of report is biased?
"Of the 184 reported killed July 5, the government has said 137 were Han Chinese and 46 were Uighurs, along with one minority Hui Muslim.Uighurs say they believe many more from their ethnic group died in the government crackdown"
The reporter quoted baseless statement. There are rumors among local Han Chinese as well. The rumors of death toll of Han Chinese varies from 360 upto1000. If the reporter wants to quote the rumor from Uglyers, they should also quote the rumor among Han Chinese. Or at least, investigate, you have seen majority of the injuries, most of them are Han or Uygler Chinese? No matter what kind of grievance they have, brutal murder of civilians is unacceptable by civilized world, right? Tell the truth, instead of making irresponsible statement that only spreading hatred.

Laughable Rebiya underestimates public’s intelligence

Rebiya, chairwoman of the “World Uighur Congress”, frequently made varies claims on the international media after the event happened on July 5. However, her speeches were quickly doubted and sneered at by netizens.

It seems that she doesn’t completely understand the rule of information age and underestimates public’s intelligence.

The woman published an English article concerning “the true stories of Uigur” on the Wall Street Journal soon after the riot in Urumchi. It read that “hundreds of Uigur died while protesting” and that violent event is a “peaceful meeting”.

A netizen named SIU TSANG commented on the article by writing “How did she know the true story while she was thousands of miles away from the city? Maybe she has special channels to contact that area and be the chief instigator of the riot.”

Last week, Rebiya used a fake photo to “prove” how the china’s police to suppress the “peaceful protest”, in a interview of Arab Al-Jazeera Satellite TV Channel. But, the trick was debunked by netizens. They found that it is a news photo attached to the report titled “The body grabbing seesaw battle in Shishou” published by Nanfang Daily website on June 26, 2009.

Another fake photo upheld by some supporters of WUC (World Uyghur Congress), is a news photo portraying a traffical accident scene happened on May 15 in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province which is thousands miles away from Urumqi. But they boldly alleged that this is a photo “proving” the “violent suppression” in Urumqi,.

In Tianya Community which alleges having more than 26 million registered members, a netizen named kouanhuayuan said “ after the ‘3.14’ incident(a riot in Tibet) happened, the trick of using a fake photo to create a rumor that ‘China’s Army pretended to be Lamas to provoke the riot’, had become a laughingstock. But now, Ribiya the head of ‘Uygur Secessionists’ play this game again trying to cheat the world and viciously attack China. This trick can’t prettify her fictive face of “peace” , but also insult the whole world people’s intelligence.

Rebiya is subnormally intelligenct or have an axe to grind. Don’t forget she has a intimate contact with terrorists, said a netizen of sina.com.

“It’s looked like that some people have forgotten the “9.11” and if they provide the terrorists platform they will destroy themselves”, said a netizen named LUN BAO

"condition of anonymity" has been mentioned 202 times in AP articles Since 01 January 2009. "They accused" is construed as a condition of anonymity. And, completely nullifies the earlier statement "Chinese government blames for inciting the unrest. It has not provided evidence". Cite the source(s) AP chumps! Another horribly baseless opinion piece by an Associated Press "writer".

I am quite angry! now, How ugly is the face of western media and democracy. The black can be turned into white by journalist prejudice. The chinese government should arrest the evil journalist, since they use the news to kill the people.

I am an American living in China. The rioters hit kids that are 5-10 years old, in their heads, with bricks. This is unacceptable and should be met with the most severe force. I think that the Chinese government has taken decisive action. The Chinese governement is correct in their actions. This type of violence cannot be accepted by any government in it's homeland.

Now the Chinese government must assist the US in it's fight against terrorism. It has been a global problem for many years.

Thanks for the comment C. You are correct by saying that they won't leave anyone alone. What's the problem? We are just trying to improve our lives...and our children. Do they not want the same? Do they want their children to have a disadvantage or advantage?

Is it a religious quagmyer?

I suspect that one of the basic tenets of journalism is: whenever you write something about China, make sure you do it in a way that makes China look bad.

and another principle would be: even if the people who actually read it hardly fall for that trick, just keep doing it.

There is an article on a chinese website today, detailing the story of this "shooting kill 2 wound 1". This is what happened on that day. 3 men went to the mosque, full of uighurs of course, ask people to join their Jihad. They speak with a different accent, obviously not locals from Urumuqi. They even interrupted the pray and tried to grab the mike. People in the mosque told them to get out, so they started to assault people with knifes and sticks. Note, uighrus are allowed to carry knives legally all over china, since it's their freaking tradition. Therefore, those uighru thieves all over China are basically armed robbers.

Back to the story. The security guy in the mosque confronted them, then the 3 started to chase him out of the mosque. The security said it's his strategy to protect the mass inside the mosque. He went out (it was the center of the city) and ran to police. Police tried to stop that 3 guys, then they turned to the police with their knives and stones. Police did the warning shots, still couldn't stop them, then comes that 3 wonderful shots. Chinese police still need to perfect their skill since the last one only wounded the trash.

Irresponsible statement that only spreading hatred. Before I dreamed of Statue of Liberty and often felt excited when people could get justice in American films, now I know it just a statue without any spirits of freedom, it is a beautiful lie. Americans support the terrorists and use religion to seperate our CHINESE PEOPLE.They post ridiculous irrelevant violent pictures to match Uighur and try to convince those peaceful people how cruel Han is and how poor Uighur is. IT IS UNFAIR AND CHINESE PEOPLE TERRIBLY HURT! Is it how America so-called fair and justice? One of American friends said he even feels safer in China than in USA. China cannot have guns privately. Why America doesn't accuse China that it is human being rights for people in China everyone own a gun? My godness! Pay more attention to your economics and put more energy to help those poor Americans! WE CHINESE LOVE PEACE AND PLEASE STOP SPEADING SO MUCH RUMORS! I am afraid I begin hate America.
