Well, this fills me with confidence. We're getting ready to put into action a plan that scientists "think" "could" work. Just like they thought that the world would be a hunk of ice now due to global cooling (wrong) and that we could save the planet by healing the ozone layer (which actually creates global warming), and the same people who advance the man-made global warming theory (debunked by anyone not in the pocket of people who stand to make money selling carbon credits). Wonderful.
And they're happy that we've departed from the last administration's bad plan to this administrations worse plan??
Show me, I am sure everyone ties the best they can. Calfornia has a poor track record for having the enviromentalist get it right, the last was MTBE. While sea lions starve we worry about Orca's. Last time I checked you need food for a food chain to exist. Focus on the bottom and the top will work it self out. Oh and by the way if you shut down farming what will we eat? And what about corn for Bio fuel. We need a plan and special interests don't get us there. I would like to see a complete solution. Let's hope our scientists get smarter really soon before we go swiming with Orca's
How many species have gone extinct without the influence of man? How humanistic and egotistical to think that we can save every species on the earth. When all the environmentalists give away all they have and go live in caves and eat nuts and insects, then I will listen to what they have to say. Until then they are just another religious entity pushing their agenda and beliefs on everyone else and causing people that actually contribute to society to suffer. Balance and solutions to all sides are needed now, not a one-sided solution.

Invite the Japanese whaling fleet to come to Puget Sound and "study" the whales. That should save 500,000 wild salmon a year and leave plenty of water for cities and farmers.
No one knows enough about Orcas to know what they eat or where they go when they can't see them. BUT the ECOTERRORISTS want a gov't. program that will screw the people and save the orcas, they think. Obama will go with it, he loves this kind of thing. He hates America so much this will be the perfect weapon. I would pucker up California, your toast. You don't need hydroelectric power anyway. Burn coal so Obama can tax the hell out you like the rest of us.
Who the heck are these "scientists" and where does the media come up with them? Killer whales face extinction because of a decline in CA salmon - utter nonsense. Orcas have a worldwide distribution and a varied diet. If there were no CA salmon we'd still have plenty of Orcas in the sea.
Restore CA salmon - sure. But can the crackpot 'science.' Obama promised to put science at the forefront of policy, and he uses all the right words. but more and more his administration seems to be taking science-be-damned positions.
Now it may be nice to keep the whales around. However, I am unemployed and sit in a state with a manufacturing base economy where the unemployment rate will soon be 15%. The unemployment rate may even reach 20%. In my mind the people that want expensive energy and worry so much about polar bears and getting non citizens (illegal immigrants) jobs have strange priorities.
I live in Fresno and grew up on the westside of the San Joaquin Valley. Fresno now has 15% unemployment and the westside towns have unemployment of up to 40%. The rest of you will soon be facing what we here in the valley are facing. .
What does Obama say we should do to save them? I won't mind paying higher taxes if he says that will help.

Californians ruined their Salmon run along time ago and the NW continues to ruin the rest of their own Salmon runs. As long as those Wash/Or/Cali boats stay out of Alaska I'll be happy.

sorry,but orcas main prey is baleen whales.and they ARE ENDANGERED.they eat the tongue and little else.some may eat seals,too.the salmon can be used to feed people.why are these particular killer whales any more endangered than others?they're worldwide.

The reality is that So Cal just takes too much of the water..and it is getting worse every day. Why can't So Cal build a desalinisation plant like Saudi Arabia? Santa Barbara tried to get it done, but it was shot down because no one down there wants to pay for it when they can get free water from Nor Cal. The Delta and Sac River has to be flushed or the fisheries will die. I would rather see the water returned to its normal function than see greedy people from North Mexico washing their driveways.
Nice to hear all the ignorant comments from the NEOCONS. I live 1/2 mile from the Sacramento river in Northern California, and am on the river at lest twice a week. The Salmon fishery is in serious decline due to bad water management practices, and corporate greed. The water that is shipped south for the mega-agricultural businesses is subsidized by our tax dollars. My advice to southern cal is don't build cities in the desert... duh.
The Sacramento river system use to support salmon runs numbering in the tens of millions, today we are luck to see 30,000 fish return.
Now just how much will this cost the taxpayers and NO BUDGET of California, you bunch of idiots.
