Obese people look like swines, so the virus gets confused.

If obese people die of the swine flu, we are going to have a spring cleaning of untold proportions. Better start jogging, boys and girls... :)

Obesity causes or aggravates a bunch of health issues. When is the government going to stop taxing my tobacco to pay for health care? When everything from more (or more intense) physical injuries to diabetes on massive proportions to heart issues to (on and on and on), put a tax on 2nd and 3rd helpings, junk food and soda.

While you're at it, put a CO2 and methane tax on Congress. Put sensors in the capital dome, and charge politicians either by the spoken word, or by greenhouse gases their endless drivel produces.

The fat SWINES are most susceptible to swine flu. What's the big surprise? They're susceptible to many diseases slender people don't get and yet we (tax payers )have to pick up the tab

I am fat. Actually, by American standards, I'm only slightly overweight. Too much office work, and no place to hang out in my little town. I think most Americans are in the same situation. When you can only socialize on Sunday mass, you've got a problem. Of course, we people, are blamed for not riding the bicycles to work on roads with no bike lanes, for eating at cheap restaurants because our salaries are too low for us to buy actual food, or for not getting enough exercise because we spend most of our time commuting or sitting in our office chairs through excruciating "business meetings". Have I left anything out?

Ok, now if your fat you get swine flu too? I don't buy this one. You just can't blame fat for everything!! Sorry that I'm overweight but the doc put me on meds that caused the weight gain. How do you deal with that?? I put on 45lbs in 6 weeks. My sister had the same response and so did my husband. And who's to blame for the drugs that are a cause of the problem???

I cannot believe the media and the medical board went there....first the smorkers and now the over weight people....go after the drunks and druggies first and then worry about those who are over weight....or here's a thought...leave people alone! And the only ones who are pigs are those who support this theory....not to mention facist!

I have said this for 40 years. Patients need to be addressed by weight when given medications as they do for children. A child gets x ml dose of medication per kilogram. The same should be for adults. An adult that weighs 95 pounds is more likely given the same amount of medication as a patient who is 300 pounds. Therefore side effects or medicinal effects can vary. Perhaps they need to look at the dosage of meds given to obese patients which may be why something is less effective.

Obesity is a disease in itself. It leads to diabetes, heart disease, arthritis, and and many types of cancer, among other illnesses. So it's not surprising that the weakened system of an obese person would be more susceptible to swine flu.

And if you don't want to be fat, BTW, stay away from high fructose corn syrup. That alone is responsible for an awful lot of obesity these days, because its metabolism in the body can rapidly lead to fat deposition (lke sucrose). HFCS is in everything: junk foods, prepared foods, sodas and other drinks. Read the labels!

GET A FLU SHOT ANYWAYS - THEN IF YOU GET THE FLU WORRY.
If everyone would go tet a regular flu shot then only those who get the flu would need to worry much about the nastier version.
Yes the flu shot is only about 70% effective in a good year but if you don't get the flu then you don't have to worry about H1N1 and clog up the emergency rooms with the worried well.
If you get a nasty version of the flu you will at least have some flu fighting anti bodies.
LETS ALL TRY TO GET ALL OF OUR RELATIVES, FRIENDS AND COWORKERS VACCINATED, EVEN IF NOT WITH THE SWINE FLU VACCINE, SO WE CAN ALL REST EASIER.

I'm all for it, it's one way to get rid of the lardos and whales. Between swine flu and AIDS, we may really be on to something. We just need faster acting strains of it.
