Have to agree with JohnG. These reporters go to places like North Korea and Iran and get in trouble for being where they knew they should not be (N. Korea) or knowingly breaking laws (Iran) then expect the world to come save them. B-llS--t!

There is no doubt that they are idiots. The people that sneak pics in NK and show them on television are idiots too, as are the networks that show the pics. North Korea is our greatest enemy. Time will prove this to be brutally true.

It's a shame that people break laws trying toget the inside scoop. Yeah 12 yrs is a little harsh for the punishment but look on the bright side...at least it's a work camp instead of sex slave camp. You know our prisoners should be put to use in labor camps.

Too bad we can't do the same when foreigners violate our laws. They always have diplomatic immunity. Sorry ladies, you knew the laws in that country.

Have they admitted they walked into North Korea? They must thave known of the dangers of wandering near that whacky place.Where is Super Obama? His charm alone is enough to get Kim Jung Il to hand over the keys to their cells. Imagine North Korean prison food! Got to be better than the oatmeal in Cook County Jail or the Pepper Steak at Terre Haute Federal facility..they're all pretty bad.

Is this a coincidence of what? This was NKorean's plan from the beginning. They take American hostage. Attack American's websites since they can't physically destroy Washington. Now the US is on their tail, they told the reporter to call her sister for diplomacy. I'm pretty sure, the Nkorea has some sort of trick and bag of deals waiting for the US to respond.

They should have weighed the risks of doing the story a little more before the jumped into it. They thought they were going to be under a different set of rules because their journalists?

YOU DON'T MAKE A PHONE CALL FROM A NK PRISON WITHOUT PERMISSION FROM THE AUTHORITIES. THIS PHONE CALL WAS APPROVED IN ORDER TO SEND A MESSAGE BENEFITTING NK.
IT'S PURE PROPAGANDA AND SHOULD BE IGNORED. I'M SORRY THESE TWO ARE IN A NK PRISON. I'M SORRY THAT THEY GOT CAUGHT DOING SOMETHING THEY KNEW COULD GET THEM IN TROUBLE. I'M ALSO SORRY THAT THEY WERE STUPID ENOUGH TO TAKE THE RISK. WHEN YOU PLAY WITH FIRE, YOU WILL GET BURNED. SORRY, GIRLS, YOU SCREWED UP. STAY WELL, STAY OUT OF FURTHER TROUBLE, SERVE YOUR TIME AND COME HOME SAFE. YOU HAVE NO RIGHT TO COMPLAIN ABOUT SERVING TIME FOR WHAT YOU KNEW WAS A CRIME. YOU'RE LEARNING A HARD LESSON....................UNNECCESSARILY.

I can hear Gore now - "Bush is responsible!"
They should worry though, soon global warming will make it comfortable in the winter - well, if Gore is right (hee hee)!

I would like to know where Al Gore is in all of this. It seems to me that he sent those girls over there and just abandons them. Typical liberal, they seem to mess everything up.

Its a shame that no one here seems to know what actually is going on with these reporters. The truth (accounts from multiple witnesses) is that they were taken across the border into N. Korea from China by N. Korean border guards. This is a common practice by the guards and since the women were reporting on the human trafficking of N. Korean women, they were viewed as a threat to N. Korea. They were forced to make that statement about breaking the law during their "trial". A closed "trial", in which they were allowed no representation. Euna has a 4 year old daughter waiting for her at home and Laura has a medical condition that needs attention. They were doing their jobs, as we all do each day and because of the political climate, were kidnapped and are basically being held hostage. Your reactions to this travesty is the true reason our country is falling to pieces. You should be outraged and instead you want to hang them out to dry.

I think that Al Gore and friends should step up and pay their ransom or whatever it is that N.Korea wants. As for needing diplomacy; why? They broke the laws of a nation run by a lunatic. When I lived in Vietnam, I knew what laws were in place and therefore made dam sure not to break them. I do not agree with all the crap N.Korea pulls. That said, why should these women expect to be freed. If they got caught smuggling drugs, would they still expect to be freed because they are Americans? I know that what they did is not really much of a crime to most Americans. You can tell this by the fact we have millions of illegal scumbags in our country now that we tax payers have to provide everything for. I feel bad for these women, but I don't see how it's the US's responsibility to free them. Let Al Gore do it.

The excuse is they are journalists, it is what is expected, they claim to be doing it for human rights, now they get to see the rights issue from the inside out. I am sorry to anyone jailed but to be this nieve and stupid, knowing they are in a hostile enviorment, we guess they have to save their dimes and call the State Department and when they hear, "The number you have dialed, is no longer in service and there is no new number!" They will be released, of course write a book about their experiences, get a movie to boot and sit easy for the rest of their life. Ahhhhhhh, better than Charles Schab, annuity. It's always someeles fault, never admit they blew it.

Although 12 years is harsh, these girls got what they deserved. They were intruders in a non-friendly country. If you commit the crime, you should do the time. They went into North Korea for the biggest story of their lives and they got it.

Maybe the US can hire some of these North Korean soldiers to patrol our borders.

You do the crime , you do the time. Some laws seem like BS but laws are laws. They were grown women that knew what they were doing and now it is to late for them to start crying because they was caught thumbing thier noses at the laws.

This "il" idiot only understands brute force and threats. I think we should warn him once that his launch area will be destroyed in 12 hours unless he releases the reporters. If they don't release them, take it out with cruise missiles. If he remains recalicitrant, take his nuclear facilities next. We really have the weapons now. He really doesn't. Why do we play his game with our rules?

Politics aside. Bigotry aside. These are two American citizens. They were uncovering trade in human lives, a huge violation of human rights, where is the furor over that crime? Walked over the border, biggee? NK objected for fear of their shame being revealed. Traffic in women. There is the big deal. These are two brave women, fighting for JUSTICE, fighting against Human trafficing. They are our citizens. Their gender, color, ethinicity, and who they work for, and who our president is, and who our president was, thats all besides the point.
Bring our people home. Our people require the prayers, work and support of their fellow countrymen, So who here doesn't care about these citizens of our beautiful country, because they are women, because Obama is president, because Gore supports climate care, because they are Asians, .. and who thinks its all so funny. SHAMEFUL PETTY BS
