I applaud the voters in Maine for standing up for what they believe in. Contrary to Rea Carey's ignorant statement that this vote shows "that lies and fear can still win at the ballot box.", instead it shows what truth and courage can do if allowed. The article states that the only places where same-sex marriage laws have been adopted have been where legislators have themselves made it into law, and in ALL other cases where it has been left up to the voting public (as it should be in this country), this measure has been defeated. That tells me that the legislators are being bought by lobbyists to vote, not to represent the people, but to appease whoever is handing them money. The voting public has the courage to stand for their moral values, and whether the Gay and Lesbian Task force agrees with those values or not is completely irrelevant-- the majority of the people voted against this.
Just remember straight people. We outnumber them everywhere. They couldn't be satisfied with just going on about their business. They chose to try and make us all accept it unconditionally and went too far. Well no more! What you do in private is one thing but we will not forced to play a part in your bizarre lifestyle and we really don't like you making us explain it to children. It's now time to return to some sense of normal. And normal isn't a grown man in Daisy Duke's and cowboy boots parading down the street yelling that he and his boyfriend deserve the right to marry!

Maine is one of those stupid, disconnected states that considers itself a Democratic state, votes that way, yet it's values are Puritan-like, old-school conservative and Republican in reality. They're hypocrites, but they don't know it. If you're going to be a Democrat, you have to accept and promote those values and interest groups that are your base of support. If you don't like it, then become an independent or Republican. That's what critically thinking and honest voters do. But that is rare, indeed.

Preservation of life is another that needs to come to the forefront and abortion is truly a crime against society.
