From Haiti, a surprise: good news about AIDS (AP)

AP - When Micheline Leon was diagnosed with HIV, her parents told her they would fit her for a coffin. » Full Story on Yahoo! News

she is alive by the grace of GOD. and she is right when she said, "I am not sick and am infected". Good for her.

Good news about AIDS? Do they all have it now? Leave Haiti to the Haitians. They breed like rats even though they can't feed their children. How stupid is that? We keep enabling them to be breeders and useless, how stupid is that?

Hmmmm, " infection rate stayed in the single digits, then plummeted" and "statistics not reliable etc..." What kind of a Yahoo article is this?
To talk about just one woman is commendable but it fails to report the truth. Haiti like Africa has a 90% HIV infection rate and if it wasn't for the US corp-pharm many, of those doomed to die, haven't! The main reason for a US/Can focus on Haiti...is political, bring back the Haitian President! Because the DR was about to invade but it was deemed necessary (by OAS) to re-state a Democracy. Ten years later, there is no democracy just a pile of domestic problems... and the DR might yet invade! In the meantime, another 'hole' in the bucket for the US tax-payer....

One of my professors who got her Doctorite in BioChemistry told us that - according to the CDC in Atlanta - there will never be a cure for HIV/AIDS. I argued that 'never' is an afful long time, but she said it is not possible to cure a virus that destroy's your immune system. I disagreed with her because they said the same thing about other virus's and have cures or vaccinations for them. In case none of you know this, however: If you are infected with AIDS and know it once you become exposed, they can give you the AIDS cocktail and stop the virus from setting in, but it has to be done within the first 4 hours of exposure. This is why you don't hear of doctors and nurses getting AIDS anymore. If they get pricked with a needle infected with AIDS they take the cocktail and will not develop the virus. But it HAS to be within the first 4 hours of exposure or its too late.

Good for her? She now has 4 kids and another bun in the oven. What future do they have besides breeding more of them? What's so good about creating more poverty and squalor? Who cares that more Haitian kids know about AIDS prevention when they are still breeding at age 13? Are Haitians an endangered species that we need to pay for a breeding program for them? Liberals are freaking crazy.

Happy she's healthy but sad that she conceived four children doomed to poverty. Two would have been sufficient.

We aren't doing them any favors. They can create poverty faster than we can fix it. More kids, less food. How is that working for you?

George Bush should be nominated for a Nobel Prize for his advancement of research in AIDS and other infectious diseases.

AIDS is nature's way of culling the herd. It's neither good nor bad. Without disease there wouldn't be standing room on this planet.

I'm not sure I feel good about an HIV woman having unsafe sex and becoming pregnant. Three times. Am I being squeemish here or is the SAFER SEX concept being lost on her? Hmmmmmmmmm.......

I don't know if it's good news or not. I think it is highly irresponsible for a woman with HIV to bring 4 kids into this world. She got lucky, but most of these women present the world with babies who are already infected. A little self control and responsibility would be nice to see.

its just back years ago those people din africa did not know much and couold not speak the european lanuage, and they thought they was getting help but was getting fooled, and was standing in line waiting not knowing they was all falling to their death. People need to know the real reason how aids got here in the first place.

Just as Bobert said...where are the men she's sleeping with...Do they have no scruples....morals....just Tap It...then leave. This Micheline is just a drain on the economy....Why have 3-4 kids, when you can't feed 1-2??
She's only "INFECTED"....not Full Blown Aids....so why all the Hype??
Haiti....the Aids capital of the western hemisphere....What's their Motto..Come and visit Haiti...Get Lucky...Just bring Protection....
We don't have Pimps...we cut out the middle man....

This is wonderful news, and God bless the selfless aid workers who are helping these poor unfortunate people. They are doing work that few of us would undertake. This story and similar ones dealing with the AIDS epidemic in Africa rightly refer to those who are most affected by this terrible disease, namely, mothers and their children. But I don't think that we are being at all insensitive if we ask, "Where are the fathers?" Clearly, this is a problem that needs to be addressed not only for the curtailment of AIDS, but also for the betterment of those societies as a whole.

Haiti is a garbage dump/cess pool that should be barred/isolated to prevent them from infesting the rest of the world. What with all that is occuring in the rest of the world does anyone (but idiots) have time to be concerned about Haiti.

Though I am glad people are learing how to live with this, I still can't help but feel whe had done nothing really to help the problem. Forgive me but my faith in human beings has been shaken after 2000 years of lies to suit the wants of the few over the masses has left me less then willing to accept what people say. Till there is a cure AIDs remains the second most dangurest thing on this planet, the first is a politician saying he/she/it is on your side. scary stuff right there and no cure for that one either.

It takes an incredibly selfish person to have children knowing you are infected with HIV.

Condom played a very important role. Tecnology should improve condoms and more research on this requires money but it will be worth the lives saved. Good news !

I'm kinda skeptical about them thinking they can cure aids. I've read that through certain treatments patients will test negative even though they still carry the virus. I also know a lady that had aids and took the treatment while she was pregnant. Her daughter was still taking treatments when she was five to keep from being diagnosed with aids. So, is it inactive and she still takes the meds to keep it that way? Or do they consider her cured?
