Any deal should include limits on executive pay and Union pay hikes until the industry is solvent and pays back all loans with interest.

As a fellow Citizen of Illinois this is just like him. Obama stands for nothing, so I cant wait until he faces a real challenge, one that makes him choose a side.

Interesting to see how the big O handles this. He sought the union support and got it. Most of the US is against the bailout, but he owes then something for thier support. Will he take care of his supporters or turn his back?

The American Auto Industry deserves to fail. Either you learn to compete with foreign care maker's quality, quality to cost ratio, longevity, mpg, or you continue to fail. Until the American cars Buzz me the way my non-American car does, I don't plan on buying an American Car. Secondly, they will never match the quality to dollar on a Japanese car until they do away with worker's unions in the auto industry due to Lag Costs related to unions in general, where every dollar over fair market wages employees make it costs two in the end and jobs to other employees.

Foreign car makers can afford to make a better car because they have overall less expenses

From one of the 1.something million retirees of the American auto industry. We worked hard for many years in the union to get pay that the rest of you benefited from. Without the Unions you would be making near existent wages like they did in the 1920's with no work and safty rules, no health care to speak of. At least now we have a chance to get health care for the rest of the nation, Because of the U.A.W.

Where is The savior Obama? Didn't he get elected because he could fix everything just by his words. Now he says he doesn't want to interfere with President Bush and his policies. Gee, what has he been doing for the last 2 years giving speeches like he was already the president like in Germany? He now votes present on this issue.

The quality of the big three is just as good as any foreign manufacture, check JDpower, GM leads the industry in fuel efficent cars made. In stead of complaining about American autos maybe you should check your facts

Obama sought the UAW vote along with Pelosi and Reid and he owes them bigtime. He knows the public is really upset with this and he is trying to dump it on Bush. Pelosi and Reid have already done a 180. Let them file bankruptcy and reorganize.Let them wait until he takes office for a decision.

Obama may never have to deal with the realities of his debt to the UAW. The Supreme Court is on schedule to disenfranchise his campaign and election due to his inability to satisfy the Constitutional requirements to be President of the United States.

Let's face it. Obama is a cold, distant personality type that was 'sold' to the American public by the Tank Media.

Has anyone noticed the lack of any 'personal' visibility about Obama? The lack of press conferences? And this guy is going to 'lead' us?

So, why the "change", why is he not putting in his 2 cents on all of this? He's already taken over on all the other presidential duties! Oh, I see, they were out visiting private schools for the girls. Oh, they can't possibly go to a public school. But, you bet he'll be legilating what the public schools can do! Or, maybe he was busy trying to get a certified copy of his birth certificate. ALL PRESIDENTS must produce theirs'. Maybe he doesn't have to do that if it's involved in a lawsuit. (Actually, I think there are two such suits that have been filed.)

Obama's in a no win situation: reward his UAW backers with a same as usual loan that will only prolong the inevitable and make him look wet behind the ears or push for fiscal responsibility in re-tooling the auto industry into a quality, efficient, green machine. I will never buy anything but a Honda. This is indeed a prime example of huge, politically costly decision that he is trying to vote "present." Only 4 more years of the same big, gutless government.

Nobody's wishing Obama a short life. It's nothing personal against him. A lot of people are not happy with his political views.

The Democtrats have been bought and paid for by the unions. The only plan Pelosi needs is how to satisfy the unions without pissing of the public. The democtrats willdo what the unions want. Bail out! As for Obama, he'll stand aside and vote 'present'... Atleast Bush has a back bone to stand up for something.. Thanks for voting 'Change'!!

As far as cars go, how is Honda able to sell cars for so much less than a decent American made car? Is it because, they are not made as well, as heavily, as safe, or is it because they don't pay their workers a decent wage?

Just one more thing the democrats can "dump" in Bushs lap before they slither into the whitehouse.. A bunch of game playing cowards are all I see in the congress.

i see blacks were celebrating him because he is black. Ironically, all presidents before him were white, do white people celebrate them because they were white? And i already see school changing name for him. Wow, think about it, what has he done yet? Not to be positive or negative, people should celebrate him after he does something good, should we? now who is the racists?

Ditto to all the above comments. Press wants something now, I don't see the public yelling for Obama to do something. His term starts in Jan, no Nov. HAs anyone told the Press that. Stop bringing up stupid polls.

Sorry to dissapoint but, obama is not the first black president. Bill clinton claims he is black. That makes Bill Clinton the first black president.

Bankrupt! Is there anything made in America that looses its value faster than a American Made Car? The answer is yes, American banks aka Citi Group. It's depressing to see our comrades go up in smoke.

The morale of the story is never lend money to those that can't pay you back. The banks made loans to people who bought homes they couldn't afford. They used the equity in their homes to buy SUV's from car dealers when the music was still playing. Now we have a real estate crisis, and a share of GM is worth the same as the fee you pay to park your car?

Three big shots flew into ask for 25 billion loan from you and me? The sogga ends here.

I think our representative should think with their heads instead of their wallets. They represent us not corporate CEO's. Let the auto-makers have a huge yard sale and let us pay for what we want and not what they want us to pay for. If they don't sell all the cars, well lower the prices then
