Here we go again....The quota system for nothing else but a Supreme Court Justice. I am hispanic and I find this abominable. Hispanic is not a race. It is a culture form peple that came from other countries in Hispanic America. It is now a minority and as such what does it mean to be represented in the Sjupreme Court when the candidate should be selected for his/her knowledge of interpreting the Constitution. Ms. Sotomayor doesn't understand that because she set a precedent already. The Democrats use hispanics to be re-elected. Will probably make legal the illegals so that for 2012 Obama will have enough votes for re-election. This is a game that is hurting the country. Neither blacks or hispanics are "victims" but they thrive on that concept. Would there be an end to it some day?.

It's interesting that Justice Cardozo is sometimes listed as the first Hispanic, but many groups dispute this, saying that most Hispanic organizations and the U.S. Census Bureau do not regard Portuguese as Hispanic. Justice Cardozo was Hispanic only if Iberian Peninsula origins qualify.

Now wait a minute...Hispanics typically have large families. I am married to a Hispanic and know this is true. They also typically do not believe in abortion because of wanting large families. I noted in her family sitting silently behind her that there was no husband or children noted. With a woman of her means, even if she couldn't have borne her own children, she had plenty of money to adopt. No family of her own, yet she wants to rule where family affairs might come in to play? Now I know why she is for abortion, not for woman's choice, but because if she got pregnant a child would have been on her way to scratching her way to the top.

How can a person interpret the law when they can't understand the simple definition of discrimination as described in the Webster's dictionary? I didn't see that certain races are to receive preferential treatment in its definition proper. Racial prejudice or discrimination is the wording, thus all races must betreated equal without prejudice to a particular minority to increase their numbers in a select job title! If they have to play that game, it is time for more diversity in the NBA and NFL, no more NAACP, black only colleges and so on.

I am not Hispanic, but I think this Obama decision is just another way of keeping legal Hispanics in THEIR PLACE. He made it clear what he wanted even before she was appointed, making sure that the racial views were pointed out. Shame on him.

We ask our Judges to be court neutral when their records reflect bias in some area or another. It is all a game mow of the rich who represent not the people but the parties who fight not for correct legislation but for correct shots at staying in power.

The most hysterical online ranters obsess about only one or two "issues" and they are always the most recent headlines. Like, oh, "racism", and the firefighter test and the names of organizations they had never heard of before but suddenly "know all about".

If you ask the most hysterical online protesters for any more complete knowledge of Sotomayor, all you get is a "thumbs down". If you mention that other justices have had similar rulings or had more rulings overturned, same thing, thumbs down. I've seen it, and done it, and counted the thumbs down sans reply many times over.

The difference between opinions and ideas is not whether either is "true", but whether or not they are based upon something more substantial than "I heard that..." or worse yet a single story or headline. Things like court rulings and the activities of public organizations are a matter of public record.

There is one question I would like to see her answer, a direct answer, no beating around the bush.

The bottom line is that she will vote on how she "feels" about issues (including racial bias) instead of voting strictly on what the Constitution says. That's why the liberals love her and the conservative Democrats and Republican don't. Only good thing is that considering her diabetes (which is a terrible disease I would wish on no one), she won't be on the court for more than 10 or 15 years, by which time a more conservative President hopefully could appoint a strict constructionist.
