The difficulty in nailing someone like Sanford for fraud isn't lack of evidence. It is that those 'responsible' for enforcing the laws have too many skeletons in the closet to risk going after him. It might be up to the citizens to raise so much hell they have to address it.
I think the story is great, but I think Sanford should gracefully step down while he can. He lied to his constituents and that should be enough. What remains to be seen about the finances will probably make matters much worse. Why do these politicians continue to think that they can get away with this kind of behavior? What makes them think that they are above God's and man's law? I don't want these people running my country.
If the people and the leadership of his party in his state demand for his resignation, then he should resign. That's the best way for him to save face. He adds more problem to his party which is already in a lot of trouble! To Mr. Sanford...DON'T BE SO THICK FACED!...RESIGN!
Other politicians don't care about who he screws because they all have their own secrets to hide. Politics is a rat's nest. The only sin is in getting caught. These creeps could keep this up for years without feeling any remorse but a guy gets caught and all of a sudden he's repentant and tearful. I'm from S. Carolina and I've known from the beginning that Mark Sanford was a loser. He tried to stay in the light by thinking he could deny the bailout money that all the other states were taking. When he didn't win that fight he had to go get his stuff wet by some skank in another country. Sanford needs to get the heck out of the US and go live with girlfriend. His wife needs to stop making herself look so stupid. I hate that she isn't standing up for herself but waiting for her husband to fall back into love with her. Get a grip lady.
