CEO vows better performance as GM exits bankruptcy (AP)

AP - General Motors completed an unusually quick exit from bankruptcy protection on Friday with ambitions of making money and building cars people are eager to buy. Once the world's largest and most powerful automaker, new GM is now leaner, cleansed of massive debt and burdensome contracts that would have sunk it without federal loans. » Full Story on Yahoo! News

If they don't offer cars that are breakthrough value in price and superior durability to japanese products in similar classes of cars then the American taxpayer will be on the hook for this boondoggle.

This is not "NEW" General Motors it should be called "Obama" or "Union" Motors. The Bond Holders and taxpayers got screwed big time to bail out the unions that Obama is in bed with. Obama was a community organizer aka union man. I will never buy a Chevy or chrysler product. Buy American buy Ford

who is going to buy these new GM and Chrysler cars ? most conservatives I know will not buy from government motors and the liberals I know buy Toyota and Honda and such. I hate to see them go the way of Studebaker but I will not be buying one of them, Ford will be in the same trouble by next year, actually worse because they have more debt and less assets than GM, and their loans start coming due next year and because Obama has set aside the past 200 + years of bankruptcy laws taking those with secured debt out from first place in collecting it will be very hard for them to borrow anything else to hold them over. but I think that is Obama's plan anyway

think about this

what do all third world countries have in common?

very little or no industry, and no middle class, you are rich or very poor with no way to work you way to a better life,

what do all prosperous nations have in common?

lots of free enterprise manufacturing jobs and a middle class,

is their a connection ? will Obama's anti manufacturing taxes and regulations make things better or worse?

I drive a GM car, that has had the engine light on for 3 years...paid over $1700 to repair & the light still comes on. Total paid on the car $19,000, fell late on the payments and now the car is being reposessed with still over a year left to pay on it. I am a mother who works and believes in work and teach this to my three kids. And GM gets a bail out??? Produce a car under $10k (because of the depreciation) that gets good mileage that I can still drive after I pay it off. You will win a customer who would buy a second car and encourage her kids to buy. As it stands, if I could go out tomorrow and buy another car, it would be a Toyota Prius. Not a piece of junk American car - with what I have dealt with as far as owning/purchasing an American car, I would find it easier to get a bus pass.

Well, so are you all excited now? Ready to buy GM? They're delusion is so laughable it's also pitiful. If they can't compete in durability and price and style to Asian competition, they're toast.

Mind you, this incredible and monumental failure that happened to them didn't happen overnight. It took decades/generations, and management stood there with their thumb up their derrieres. They brought this upon themselves..

It actually would be healthier to allow them to liquidate instead of Chapter 11. No one helped Tucker, Studebaker when they failed.

If you can't make it and get defeated by your competition, you die and rot. That's called natural selection. Once again, doh!Bama and Friends have allowed a company dead and rotting to be resurrected just so the feds can own it and make even worse decisions about how to make a car. I'll never buy GM... I drive a Camry, had 2 wonderful Corollas before that. Go with Toyota, Mazda, Lexus, Volvo... don't support the unions, don't support this joke of a socialist car company!

Hey! GM I won't buy any automobile out a patriotic sentiment.
We are a result oriented country.
The formula is very simple just get rid of (personnel or equipment) that
it Does not produce positive results. From efficient stop lights that can be seen even at sunset, to engines that last 400k miles... or more.
We know UAW is there but best performing personnel, should be rewarded...Let's put our thick pride aside, and hire even foreign advisers
with proven successful results.

just before the financial crisis Ford borrowed a lot of money so their dept is higher than GMs and payments start coming due for that debt next year. currently they are loosing about $1,600 per car, if things do not get better soon there is little hope that Ford will survive from being taken over by Obama. As Obama was taking over GM and Chrysler he said he really doesn't want to be in the car business, to me it is like someone sticking a knife in your heart while saying I hate to have to kill you.

7 1/2 years from now, when President Obama finishes up his two terms, the U.S. government's interest in GM will be nothing but a faint memory, high employment will be cruising along in overdrive, the economy will have made a complete recovery, there will be cleaner energy sources, we will be out of the middle east, the U.S. will have more allies than ever before, and best of all, the American voters will have experienced what it's like to have had real leadership for for a change.

Where's my stock in the new GM. They have my money as a buffer until the economy picks up and they start to sell cars again, not. I would'nt buy a car from a government run company who's whole ad strategy is to tell the public that they promise they are trying hard to produce good cars. Oh, Im' sorry I'll buy your junk cars for the next few years until you get it right. And it's ok that you screwed me and every other person that bought one of your pieces of crap over the last twenty years with our hard earned money while your executives took unwarranted salaries and bonuses.

Please just let GM die its the American way.If you do not succeed then you fail,Why should there even be an option of government assistance. If I owned a small business and I filed for a chapter 11 The government would not help me out. What the government has done here is called being socialism..I call it another name Communism.Just let it die the only thing it is doing is f***ing up our economy even more...thanks Obama,
you sure know what you are doing

Johno, if you feel this is communism, try voicing your opinion in China or N. Korea for a real experience in communism. You were allowed to vote, and obviously made the wrong choice, sorry for that. In this country, your are free to voice your opinion irregardless of how mis-guided you might be.

Let's see how far Obama Motors gets under his leadership. Sign the petition for the resignation or impeachment of Barrack Obama, Joe Biden, Nancy Pelosi, and Harry Reid at SHADOWFAXREPORT.com. They have broken their oath of office to uphold and protect the Constitution of the United States of America. If they do not resign they should be impeached for treasonous acts.

Wait and see what GM comes up with. A lot of you seem to assume the whole country is divided into either committed conservative or liberal. I suspect both camps are a minority and the true majority of the population is pragmatic. Given the standard of what I read here, I certainly hope so. GM has apparently recruited designers from Australia so I would expect an improvement in design & quality.

Oh don't worry GM, Obama will bail you out as many times as necessary. Afterall the government has owned Amtrak for over 40 years, and of that 40 years it has not turned a profit even once. As you can see the Government knows best.

Aftr that I started to buy Japanese. (Made in America). I still have bad feelings for GM. Maybe, just Maybe the American companies will spend some of there profits to educate American's. Our schools are just as bad as GM.
