US: Financial woes no excuse in funding Afghan war (AP)

AP - Even in a global financial crisis, the world cannot afford to skimp on its obligations to Afghanistan, which wants to double the size of its army but will never be able to pay for it, Defense Secretary Robert Gates says. » Full Story on Yahoo! News

Bring the troops home, enough Americans died already, we don't owe them anything. That is their " civil war ", mind our own business.

The war in Afganistan is one that the Demecrates fail to say much about. It was started by the Clinton Administration and extended during his second term of office - I know as I am a retired military member and was in during that period of time. Not a single goal was accomplished during that Dem started war, yet almost all of President Bush's cited intents/goals were met.

larry.ejima - don't you remember that Osama bin Ladin was last reported in that area? bin Ladin has sworn to destroy all American and western cultures. The war in Afghanistan is NOT a civil ware, it is a police action to capture a fugitive of justice from those aiding and abetting factions protecting him.

Like Dennis T said, Clinton started the action to search out bin Ladin after the Africa embassy & USS Cole bombings. Clinton's leadership was just so inept that bin Ladin continued to grow and attacks on the west culminated in 9/11, bombings in Spain, London and Indonesia, etc.

And in case you hadn't heard, our President-elect who claims to be leading "The Big Change" is keeping Gates on as SecDef and brining back a bunch of Clinton-era retreads for his cabinet and bringing in Clinton him/her/self as SecState.

The Big Change is going to simply be the same organization that so weakly led us into Afghanistan in the first place!

Time to fold the tent on Nato, actually, it is well past time. The US is on the hook to defend them and they do little to nothing for us.
