Allies' stance cited in US gays-in-military debate (AP)

AP - When it comes to dealing with gay personnel in the ranks, the contrasts are stark among some of the world's proudest, toughest militaries — and these differing approaches are invoked by both sides as Americans renew debate over the Pentagon's "don't ask, don't tell" policy. » Full Story on Yahoo! News

Homosexuality is wrong, has been for millenia, and is an un-natural act, nature itself speaks this to us. And yet we are so blind and dont listen. Just because other nations allow this behaviour makes it ok for us to do the same? America has always striven to hold the high ground on moral issues. We should continue to do the same and not be pushed by an im-moral minority, entertainment industry, or press.

Of course gays serve with pride in every country, EXCEPT the US. When do we loosen the bonds of the Bible Bigots and American Taliban and wake up to the 21st Century?

Well, now we have the media's objective report on the issue.

There's a reason why husbands and wives, and brothers cannot serve in the same unit. A squad leader, for example, cannot be truly objective about who he will send into harms way if he has to chose between his lover or the next guy.

I don't think allowing homos to serve openly will destroy our military, but using other countries as proof it is not a problem is bogus science. We are not other countries. The media also neglects to address the problems other countries have by choosing homo lifestyles over family values.

They should have polled the troops to see if they'd rather charge into battle with an emotional, sensitive man or a man ready to kill.

Sounds stupid to me , if we dont OK gay marriage ,because of morale issues, then what will lifting the ban do . It will give gays more power to lift the ban on marriage and show off there perverted life style . No wonder this country is getting flushed we keep pushing God aside and approving immorality.

How are the arguments against gays any different than arguments against blacks first serving in the military, and then having racially integrated units?

It's a sexual depravity, not a right. It's the Democrats who are pushing this crap.

VOTING FOR A DEMOCRAT IS GAY

DON'T BE GAY

I hate when people use "other countries" as a model for what the US should do. It's an intrinsically FLAWED stance; their cultures are different, their basic upbringing is different, their society works differently... It's a clear case of apples and oranges (or maybe pears). WE should figure out what's right for US, and if it HAPPENS to be the way they do it, fine, but we shouldn't do anything just BECAUSE they do.

Gays should take their battle to the closets where they can play with one another all night and day. Just stay out of the military and out of my face.

This is about bigotry and nothing else. Also, the idea that because we have the largest and most powerful military, we have nothing to learn from anyone is absurd, and shows a complete lack of knowledge of history. Greece's military machine built them an empire unrivaled by any in its day, and it was a pretty common practice for men in the field to find relief with each other.

I've said it before and I'll say it again....If I'm in a foxhole with a gay soldier, the ONLY thing I'm going to be worried about is his/her ability to kill the enemy before they kill us.

Finally some common sense and YES we should look at how other countries handle these issues. It is a great opportunity to learn and always will be. People are people. The hatefulness expressed in some of these comments is discouraging and distressing.

Homosexuality in the military poses several problems. First, sexual ties have deeper emotions than just comrades and prohibit making rational decisions during crucial, life threatening conditions. The same problems that occur with women in combat conditions. Secondly, if the "couple" is separated during combat, will they be able to cope knowing their partner is in harms way. And third, if a homosexual is raped after being captured by enemies, will his PTSD be worse than a straight person. Then, personally, I don't like being looked on as a sex object by a person of the same sex. It's demoralizing and causes friction between a cohesive unit that needs to be focused on their mission at all times.

There are laws and regulations regading sexuality in the military from prohibitions against adultary and sodomy laws. When you are in the military one does not get a choice which rules and regulations to obey. What about regulations about anything else? Where does this end?

So many stupid people posting here! Don't all of y'all know that Dick Cheney's daughter is a White Lesbian Dyke? How about all those closet-case Republicans in the White House that like to go to bathrooms for gay sex? Not to mention all the Democrats like Barney Frank et al who like to have sex with gay prostitutes. The people in Congress are the Real Political Prostitutes who will say or do anything they want and then preach to everyone else about morals. Dick Cheney even taught our kids how to say "Go f*** Yourself." We Americans don't have to do anything that other countries do especially Israel, but we have to be better than them because we are still a strong country even after all the damage caused by the Bushes and Clintons. I support Equal Marriage Rights for All Americans! I support Gays in the military if they want to serve and are qualified. My GOD is the REAL GOD. My GOD is a GALVANIST! www.mayorgalvan.com

Homosexual is against what the Bible Teaches and I think every GAy in the Military should be given a undesireable discharge. Our Military is a higher standard then that.

States of America barbarians throughout our history. Stop and look at our position in the world as compared to theirs. We ARE the ONLY superpower, their military WON'T support us in Afghanistan. Why should we listen to them, they are losers that just want to bring us down to thier level. I say, yo europe, take a hike ike!!!

This is the 21st century. The world is completely interconnected. No nation is an island. To say that we shouldn't look to any other countries is absolutely ridiculous!

I have nothing against the gay liberals. But I wouldn't want to serve in a military that promoted such activity.

Another pathetic attempt from the media promoting the gay lifestyle. Someone should write a story about how the media has defiled itself straying away from neutrality, and has turned into to the Don King for the gay lifestlye, pushing at least 2 gay promo stories every month on Yahoo news. Talk about abandoning the fundamentals of journalism. Reality is being manipulated and pushed down everyones throat. All because of these journalists who are suffering of 'me tooism" and just have to do gay promo because the competitor did.
Shame on the media! Damn cowards who touch the issue with the hidden intent of promoting their own agenda. Now let the puppets rebuke as an example of how the media succeeds.

First does anyone know why all military wear uniforms ?..
Its so that no one is unique...So no one man is better or worse than another !
Homosexuals are uniquie in the military....
Homosexuality is a mental illness and has nothing to do with the laws of god or man..Most just arent able to cope in the world thats handed them and thats not really their fault.....
But it does make them unique in the military which the uniform code is all about..
Its a disease which should be recognized and treatment offered like drug addcition...
The military is a way of escape from this world of crap for some and I dont blame them but we have plenty of normal people to fill the ranks and really dont need the extra worry of taking care of those that just have to be unique.....

It is a question of morality.
The gay "lifestyle" is immoral
Pre-marital sex is immoral
Having children out of wedlock is immoral (40% now)
Co-habitation is immoral
Rape
thieft
The list goes on. Allowing immoral acts is/has reduced the functionality of not only our military, but our society.

once a proud military feared and respected across the world will now have homosexuals and their transsexuals flock to it to engage in their perversions

will the military have to accommodate cross dressers and transsexuals at the front lines? yes they will, because otherwise it will be a hate crime

Our military has the responsibility of winning every war and defending America. We will not accept excuses if they lose a war. We expect them to get the job done, and have always left it up to the military to run their business.

Israel's way of doing things is irrelevant. Their military is using American weapons and technology, and at the expense of the American taxpayers is vastly superior to the people they attack.

Great Britain is a different culture entirely. They have accepted homosexuality over family values and national pride, and they have so many problems many do not believe they will survive another twenty years.

I've been around both male and female homos. the key word said in an above statment is ABILITY. there is a large difference in the emotions of gay attitudes. i'm speaking of strict military abilities. when lif or dealth is on the line, it's time to end fun and games. homos just don't get it. this is not the time for choosing your BUDDY. if i choose, i want the straight guy in my foxhole!!

The United States military is different than the "others" cited in this article, in that it is a VOLUNTEER military. More than one policy will change, if and when the current policy on homosexuality changes.

There are many people currently serving in the military, who object to the homosexual lifestyle. These individuals would not think twice about leaving the military by NOT re-enlisting or even retiring early because they don't want to be forced to deal with some schmuck saying "I get treated badly because they know I'm gay."

After enough soldiers leave the military, in order to maintain troop levels--the president may have to re-institute the draft. Then, it won't matter if they are racist, gay, anarchist, muslim, or a "bible-thumping bigot" because they will be forced to serve.

This older man killed for his country & resents the notion that I was not stable enough to fight for my country based on my sexuality. The science of sexuality is insufficient to state that it is an unnatural act & only a fool would profess to have such knowledge. What will happen to such beliefs, if & when the science proves that it is inherently genetic or God made? I did not choose it but kept it secret for over 70 years; while society forced me into my closet & took many rights away. No sane man wants that. It would seem that some standards of morality deem that heteros should have more rights than gays because of religious tenets. Did someone die and made them God? Why did our founding fathers made it clear that the Church and State must be kept separate? History shows that most wars have religion as their primary cause, like the one we are in now. Only the truth will survive this & that will only come with knowledge & our maturation as a people & nation.

Quick and simple solution
Ask the troops!
That and IF it gets approved seperate the two, just like hetro couples. They have to serve in different units

And just a question here; What happens if the gay soldiers get deployed to a country that kills people for being homosexual? Is the enitre unit as risk?

Seriously - Have ALL the troops vote
