House of Pain: GOP's Class of '94 (Politico)

Politico - The sex scandals that have tarnished Sen. John Ensign (R-Nev.) and Gov. Mark Sanford (R-S.C.) don’t appear to have much in common. Yet there is one thread that binds them together: Both Ensign and Sanford were members of the famed Republican House class of 1994, as well as its latest casualties. » Full Story on Yahoo! News

As we now are able to discern, this bunch took positions contrary to their true nature just to get elected.
At this time the same bunch are trying to discredit the present administration and about 40 % of the US is buying in to it. Very sad.

It couldn't have been too hard to write an article about GOP hypocrisy! Even Bush could do the research on that one!

And THIS is the problem with American politics. The far left and far right nuts are more concerned with what is going on in the bedroom than what is happening to the American pocketbook and the American free enterprise system!

That these politicians are immoral and corrupt is no revelation, I mean, they're POLITICIANS, however, by expressing no regret or shame over their actions, they are, in essence, telling their constituants 'screw you'! Of course, this should be no surprise either, they're POLITICIANS!

Where are the stats on the Democrats?? Democrats have no problems with infidelity, their motto is anything goes. If it feels good, do it. It's part of their inclusive big-tent philosophy. So how about reporting on a subject near and dear to Democrat's hearts - the environment. Where is the report showing how hypocritical they are - from driving big SUV's to getting chauffeured around in big limos to taking junkets on private and Air Force jets to living in huge houses. Hmmm, that's what I thought. It doesn't exist.

Folk's, here you all go again ripping each other along party lines and the politicians are loving it! Don't you realize all these so-called party dividing 'issues' are discussed behind closed doors in behind-the-scenes deal making schemes where the top priority is self enrichment for these politicians! They're laughing all the way to the bank while patting each other on the back because the 'dumb' public falls for their ruses every time. THERE IS NO DIFFERENCE BETWEEN DEMS OR REPUBS, they're all liars & cheats and not a one of them gives a damn about you or yours!!!

Where's the context in this story? How have other political families fared in these years? What are the national averages for age groups in these years?

So if Liberals are called LIBS...by the big fat jerk on the radio, I guess we can start calling conservatives CONS.
No party has the exclusive rights to abuse of authority/power. Politicans are a different breed..breed of what, I don't know. The ego involved to campaign is the same ego and warped sense of self worth that causes the laundry list of bad behavior of both parties. This happens everywhere. Italy is always in the news. The fact that they are all MEN leads me to the conclusion that more women need to run for office..

CONS, I like that, lol

Lies and more lies, thats what makes a good politician.

Hey, G, you're right. That has always been the conservatives platform. Don't speak about your failures just tell enough lies and the public will by it. But, they are right. Most people don't read or think for themselves anymore.

Don't get me wrong, dems and Obama have made some bad choices, but they atleast deserve a chance to make mistakes. The CONS had a decade and look what happend. Obama had 4 months.

"Republican Revolution"......HA!!! We would have been safer and benefited more under the Russian Revolution.

Lies, scandals, Adultery, unnecessary war in Iraq, troop killing, Economic Terrorism, "Patriot Act"- spying on Americans, housing crisis, job loses in the millions, STILL no health care, threat from North Korea, Iranian threat, collapse of the Auto Industry, collapse of the Financial Market, borrowing from Chinese, foreign ownership, Katrina, national diabetic epidemic, "family values-aka: adultery".......the list goes on.

Republican accomplishments. The House of Shame is more like it.

For his girlfriend, this was merely a fling with an older man. She wanted attention - she likes attention - and she got the attention. He'll not be voted in again. And his wife will likely leave him.

Like all the other women. He's the object of women's lonely heart's clubs. When a woman gets temporarily bored, they know who to call.

I am 68 years old and have been interested in politics since the early 1960's. During that span, the number of Republicans who have resigned in disgrace, been caught in sex scandals, been convicted of crimes, etc., outnumber the number of Democrats by a 3:1 ratio. Yes, there are scumbags in both parties but the numbers tell the tale. I think it probably goes back to the Richard Nixon mantra of "the end justifies the means." This allows the Republicans to be hypocrites on moral issues to get votes without any feelings of guilt on their part. They feel that getting elected and promoting their agenda is the most important thing, no matter how they have to achieve it.

We need a new party, one that has the PEOPLE'S best interests in mind. Class of '94 had some good ideas but they got distracted in their war with Clinton. They should have stayed on track and Republicans would still control congress.

As I see it, there is one great thread that connects these listed characters with us, and that simple fact is that they are our fellow citizens. Elected fellow citizens are suppose to be a cut above us common folks, but it seems that they have their heads in some type of social septic tank called 'politics'. Makes little difference if they are Rs, Ds, or Is. It was each of them that signed their John Henry on the papers and elected themselves to run for office, so I damn well expect more from them, than some common street thug. Otherwise, resign your high social position, so you can let it out of your pants. I do not think that view is asking too much from these characters.

If "conservatives" would stop talking about how much they embody true family values and stop screaming about how gay marriage is a threat to the supposed "traditional family", and start talking about things that really mattered, then the press would stop caring about all their many, many extramarital affairs (and other hypocrisies). It's simple -- stop preaching to the American people on private issues, and the Republicans private issues will stop being reported on.

Republicans may fool God but they can't fool the people, at least not all of the time. Before the Republicans start talking about something new they need to get rid of the old and the stale. The drawback to this strategy is that when they got finished dumping their discards there would be no one left in the party, except maybe air head Sarah Palin. Republicans preach hate and distrust against Obama after all of the destruction and pain they brought upon the nation during the Bush era. You have a lot of guts but you are a bunch of stupid and arrogant hippocrits. Go sit in the corner and wait until your name is called.

Liberals have ALWAYS fought for:

CLEAN AIR
CLEAN WATER
CIVIL RIGHTS
VOTING RIGHTS
EQUAL RIGHTS
ENDANGERED SPECIES
SOCIAL SECURITY
MEDICARE
MEDICAID

These are all ACTUAL NAMES OF LAWS that LIBERALS HAVE FOUGHT FOR and CONSERVATIVES, REPUBLICANS AND RIGHTWINGERS HAVE FOUGHT TO DESTROY.

If you are FOR any of the above, then you share the views of LIBERALS.

Conservatives and Republicans promise the electorate that government does not work, and then when they get elected they fulfill that promise.

The founding fathers would consider these guys to be carpet bagging shysters.

Newt Gingrich is a twice divorced jerk who was doing his latest fling while pounding the podium demanding Clinton's impeachment. All the while his wife was in the hospital with cancer.

So what does Newt do? He convenes a panel to study the work-life issues for Congressmen. And watch what he says about teachers.

Some hero.

This story is not just about Republicans and their scandals, it is about how they preach family values and practice differently.

You can talk about however many Democrats have done the same thing, but that's not the issue. Democrats don't preach family values.

This is a story about hypocrisy.

Should we now have sympathy for these transgressors because of
"...the pressures and demands of political life..." and "...the grueling pace of work in Washington..."?
I'm reminded of a Bill Clinton interview during which he was asked why he cheated in the manner that he did. His response?
"Because I could."
No one believes for a nanosecond that our representatives in Washington are overworked. The fact that they have the time and resources to engage in these "activities" is proof of that. Further, this type of immoral behavior spans decades, and has no party affiliation.

If our focus is to be morality, why has there been such deafining silence about the questionable background and the very questionable associates that our sitting President has?
