Gruebel: UBS cannot comply with U.S. request (Reuters)

Good for you Switzerland. Just as you stood Hitler and his nazis down during WWII, stand up to Obama and his socialists. Heck there may even be a communist or two within his camp.

Why should UBS brake Swiss criminal law? The best solution would be for the US government to shut down UBS's operation in the US. It would be a blessing in disguise. Who wants to do business with a government that has no respect for other countries' judicial system?

Democrats will tax you to death. That is what this is about. If you we're wealthy would you keep your money in the U.S. so you could pay the highest tax rates in the world? Rich people dont get rich by doing stupid things with their money.

The world has always worked hard to benefit and protect the wealthiest individuals, families and corporations. If there is a way to reduce or eliminate burdensome taxes on the wealthiest 1%, who happen to be the wealthiest despite supposedly burdensome tax rates, then individuals, groups, corporations and governments have all labored tirelessly to make sure their needs are being met. It's only fair that the wealthiest people living on your street should have ways of hiding wealth ... even if you don't. This is good for them, and perhaps even better for you.

The resolution is rather simple. Since UBS did business in the United States, those transactions and subsequent accounts, ARE subject to US law. UBS will be found to be responsible for the disclosure of said transactions and accounts. The Swiss Criminal law and statutes are non-enforcable in the US.

UBS is a US based bank and falls under US Law, Not Switzerland. If the US records are wanted by the US court system then they should get them to end this dispute. It is not disrespecting Switzerland Law to get the things we want in the US.
Yes, Democrats will tax and spend on everything. You voted them in.

Rothchild's, Kissinger's, Bilderberg Group Members, G-8 Summit attendees....seems like more of the same garbage coming out of DC. Yeah, we want to tell you but, it's against Swiss law to release the names.

You think the IRS doesn't have bank account info on these people already or is it they own the IRS?

Switzerland should show the United States the door.

The United States and Switzerland are friendly country. You have a friend like the United States - who needs friends.

Switzerland represents and has representented the United States for 10s of years in IRAN. Switzerland is doing the U.S.'s dirty business. If I were Switzerland, I would tell the United States to get lost.

We would probably find Al gore's gobal warming payment to his personal account along with the clintons sell out payments for NAFTA. I wish people would realize that in the state of michigan we would have been in trouble in 2001 if chrysler wouldn't have launch 11 cars in three years. I' m sure the useless Democrats would have blame Bush still even thou it was Clinton and NAFTA. Thanks for the government sell out my America dream is gone. I think if any person gets vote in any office city, state and useless Washington and they don't do the job they should be hung.

How fair is it for hard working Americans to pay their share of taxes and other that benefit from the wealth of this nation do not. Switzerland should be ashamed of helping American tax payers cheat the system. If the shoe was on the other foot Switzerland would you allow this cheating to happen? Please put the politics aside, you know this is just plain wrong.

Funny!Is'nt it?
Every Bank must reveal to the Government of accounts if asked.
The laws should be the same for all Banks.
Why have secret accounts in the first place?
Like many people around the world keep accounts in America to save on Tax,which is just not right, depriving their Governments of the taxes.
Its the intentions that matters, why give loop holes in the first place?

The likely concern on the part of the U.S. government is that people with money are taking it out of the country and putting it elsewhere. The more money that leaves, the more they must create to sustain the economy, which will drive up inflation. Inflation will cost debt holders a great deal because as real wages rise, debts that were incurred before can more easily be repaid.

I say kick UBS out of the U.S., and forbid U.S. citizens from dealing with this company. Anyone found doing business with UBS should be assessed stiff penalties--like losing all money placed in a UBS account plus maybe a 100% penalty.

I think their noncompliance helps UBS. - one of the last bastiens of privacy - The US is so driven by exposure of laundry clean or dirty. This is just tabloid seeking media bull crap... Watch the right find and count the money while the left hand takes your wallet. I say get rid of ALL politicians and lets go to the White House with pitchforks and take back our government with an ousting -and vote no confidence. PREDICTION: UBS will be hacked from an operative inside.... I mean c'mon sheeple where did they get the 52,000 figure? Wait. You'll see. Mr. "Sources close to the investigation who wish to remain anonymous said". This is all bogus. Bogus World, Bogus Government, Bogus "tax" Reasons. IMHO

Yet another case of American bullying.

They found a solution with Marc Rich. They should find a solution for this between the governments.

Lawyers and courts are the wrong approach.

I should have known it was too good to be true. The Swiss are going to protect their cash cow by any means necessary. They've been hiding money for decades. When I was a little girl, adults used to tell me If I ever make it big - hide some of my money in a swiss bank account.

From 2001 to 2009 I learned that ONLY terrorists and criminals hide information or stand up for privacy.

Obviously, the 52,000 account holders are terrorists and criminals.

Well, that's what I learned between 2001 and 2009.

What is wrong here is the US Govt demanding records from foreign entities. People put their money here because it is safe and it is NOT in the US. It is simply arrogant for the US to think that other countries should bow and hand over what ever it is that the US govt demands. The US tax system is defunct, at best. Maybe if the US tax system were overhauled people wouldn't feel compelled to put money else where. This is a simple case of the US being the bully on the block.

It would be interesting to see the list and have it published, just to prove that more Democrats have been hiding their money then Republicans... No, you say. Well fact is that more Republicans give more money to charity then Democrats, so where do Democrats stash their money? We know that one hide his money in a freezer and that Kerry, Kennedy, Gore, Striesdan, Hollywood elite, and some of the other big guys their mansions, but where is the rest of their money hidden?
Swiss bank accounts should be off limits to the US and I hope that UBS tells the US to take a flying leap though a Cheerio.
