Calif. leaders face tough choices in budget talks (AP)

California...we need to out-source the state legislature. Their solution to everything is tax, tax, tax.

The Terminator (T-800 Model 101) was sent thru time to increase taxes. It it his mission and it will not stop until it's done.

Getting rid of wasted expenditures such as welfare..

Yeah, start with L.A. County. L.A. County alone in the month of May '09 paid $45 million dollars of welfare money to children of illegal aliens. Up $1 million dollars from the previous month.

Good to know when in a crisis, California taxpayers are STILL taking care of their criminal, non-U.S. citizens.. pathetic..

Tis is the state that gave us Pelosi, Fienstein(sp), Boxer, et al. This is the state that provides free health care to illegals and 16 million dollars of federal tax money to the sand mouse-- the state that would give more civil rights to gays than the average citizen and pays it's debts with IOUs.

For the love of God LET THEM FAIL!!!!!!

This is the result of years of mismanagement on the part of the California State Government. Increasing the size of the government, giving out way too many handouts (including to illegal aliens), and paying for them by taxing the heck out of people is coming back to bite them in the you-know-where.

This doesn't include the Federal money from Wic, food stamps, section 8 housing, meals for kids (when school's in session), English second language tutors, et al. going towards illegals either..

Reign in the public employees' pensions, especially cop, fire and correctional officers. There are many more that should be reigned in accordingly.

Why should we all being paying disproportionate taxes with limited benefits? Why should all our children be receiving less so that these older retired workers should be receiving more?

Quite honestly, I never seen as many selfish self-serving people as the CA. State employees unions. Many cannot perform to private sector standards but they paid, holidays, generous health benefits and so on...

Our CA. State government is broken. It serves the needy - illegals ailiens that abuse. It serves the demanding - public employees unions that abuse us.

Next time you see a cop, teacher, fire or any other state or government worker - remember they are abusing your fiscal health and well being.

Voters in California...remember that your Govenor is an A-C-T-O-R. Remember that when you go to the polls next time...Actors don't make good Govenors as they do not have: Sufficient education in managing budgets, forecasts, and appropriate tax regulation experience; furthermore, they earn inflated incomes and do not understand monetary matters as related to the general public.
Live and learn!

Ronald Reagan was an actor and former Governor of CA. When he'd left, CA had a surplus for budget.

Don't get me wrong, actors are useless tools. Though Reagan was a much better politician than actor.

California has spent years paying benefits and handouts to illegals and lazy lay-abouts. I'm tired of working 6 days a week to pay for people who dont...when you dont have money then you cut "services"...tough sh** if you can't handle that reality.

California unfortunately has spent all their money on people who aren't citizens to the point where they are bankrupt. It was very generous of them to pay for medical expenses and education for millions of these people but California has no money left. Now California can cut programs, raise taxes or legalize marijuana? A bailout is only temporary and they will never pay it back. Their options are desperate at this point.

What is so hard to understand that Americans are tired of Illegals and lifetime welfare recipients it is ridiculous we need to take to streets and demand our rights as the illegals did demanding they be removed.

Flame me if you want, but I have trouble feeling sorry for California. Among other things, this is the state that allows criminals in prisons to get sex change operations on TAXPAYER expenses. Also the state that gave a heart transplant to a two time felon. (Just two examples of thousands I could give.)

The scariest thing about this is that anyone who stood against illegal immigration in California or against the excessive welfare programs, etc, was labeled as a racist, a heartless fiend, or just as someone who doesn't care about the poor. That's why the people in the California State Legislature got elected; they promised the most handouts.

I can't get any of my representatives to tell me how they voted on cutting out the $55 million for abortion services conducted by Planned Parenthood.
One demo senate committee recommended two wks ago that it not be cut from the budget. How many of you want to continue to pay to murder babies? Its obvious cuts such as this that go untouched by those who are SUPPOSED TO REPRESENT OUR VIEWS.
I GUESS MURDER-FOR-HIRE by these assassins is to continue on so the elderly, the helpless and vulnerable can go without.

I'd like to know how many very low income seniors in the state of California, who were being given assistance for paying their Medicare Premiums by Dept, of Social Services, and were cut off last November and are now required to pay out of their social security checks. Must be 100's of thousands of seniors. Where did all that money go? It has shorted me about 200 dollars or more a month discretionary income. So, I feel I am already squeezed to the hilt. Should I also pay more in taxes - fuel, groceries, etc?

Want to see the crisis end? STOP PAYING ALL MATTERS RELATED TO THE LEGISLATURE INCLUDING HEALTH INSURANCE, TRAVEL MONEY, OFFICE EXPENSES, AND SALARIES. Don't pay anything related to the Legislature until the budget is passed. Don't even issue IOU's!
