UK comedy actress Mollie Sugden dies at 86 (Reuters)

Reuters - British actress Mollie Sugden, best-known for her role as Mrs Slocombe in the television comedy series "Are You Being Served?," has died at the age of 86. » Full Story on Yahoo! News

Oh I just loved her! I'm from Chicago and I've been watching Are You Being Served since they premiered it in the States! She was on of my family's favorites. My father and I would make bets on which color hair she'd have on the next episode. Oh, she'll be missed across the pond! God rest her. She was a real great lady!

Rest In Peace, Mrs. Sugden.

Thanks a lot for all the laughs when I watched that show in several re-runs on PBS. After a hard day of work, you and your fellow actors guaranteed a 1/2 hour of fun -- from the 'oh so proper' Captain Peacock to 'oh so gay' Mr. Humphries.
You, playing the part of Betty Slocome, were always good for a laugh, and I just loved your many hair colorS! So many good actors packed into one show.

Thanks for the memories .......

That's interesting she got coverage from a show that was on PBS, hardly well known. I got a kick out of that show when i was younger, she def. made it. Sorry to hear. She was great as well as the rest of the cast on that show.

She didn't sell millions of albums but she touched millions of lives and brought a smile to their faces. For that she will be greatly missed and long remembered.

She was a funny lady.
You and your fellow castmembers "served" us well.

This show and "Good Neighbors" were/are tops.

Now that show is the perfect example of excellent television sitcoms. The dialogue is priceless, the comedy is high class, the acting is top-notch hilarity, the personalities and their relationships cannot be matched, the skits and scenarios are outrageous in how the "issues" become making mountains out of mole hills...We had some similar sitcoms here: Night Court, Cheers, Frasier, Hillstreet Blues, but lately there's been ZERO shows that demonstrate the cutting edge intelligence of these writers. I own the series of "Are You Being Served?" so you LIVE FOREVER IN MY HOUSE, MRS SLOCUM!!

AS I am a lifelong "britophile", I have always been a fan of the PBS British programming. Are You Being Served was one of my favorites. Mrs. Sudgen was delightful. I saw her many times on the membership drives and you could tell that she was a warm person. May she RIP. She will remain in our hearts forever.

Mollie was a wonderful actress and an even more wonderful person. I loved her in everything I ever saw her in. While she may be gone from this Earth, the smiles that she brought to our faces and the ones she will continue to inspire, will go on forever.

I am so sad to hear of "Mrs. Slocumbe" passing. I love "Are You Being Served". The whole cast is hysterical, but Ms. Sugden will be sorely missed. I agree with others posting...nothing on tv today compares to that show. Rest in Peace Mrs. Slocumbe...you've earned it. So sad

Truly sad news, and I am unanimous in this. She and her pussy will be missed indeed.

Do you think that Miss Brahms and Mr Humphries will meet her at that big Grace Brothers in the sky?

Wow, we lost Wendy Richards last year, John Inman I believe in 2007, and the last I saw of Nicholas Smith he wasn't looking too good, no pun intended...I was actually happy to hear that Frank Thornton is still alive! Even more than Mr. Humphries, however, I thought that Mrs. Slocombe made the show, and Mollie Sugden's sense of comedic timing and inflection made that all possible. Take care and rest in peace, dear heart, you shall be very missed.
