tap all you want....I've got nothing to hide and would prefer they watch idiots in this country and elsewhere and keep the country safe. Why do people think the government is going to listen to them cheat on their wives, talk to their grandmother on mother's day, or listen to them order pizza. Wire tapping focuses on people with illegal intentions...so if you got'em...you're being tapped. So what!

Big surprise there. Rogue VP crapping on American's constitutional rights, while the president sat slack-jawed bragging about never reading books. In-fucqing-credible that this happened in this country.

The CIA always buckles to the wants of the current administration. No surprise here. When Obama's replacement comes in, the same thing is going to happen.
The CIA simply does not want to risk losing their money. Money comes first, national security a distant second.

Does this not scare the hell out of everyone? We have legions of dedicated, experienced, career professionals with the highest possible secuirty clearances, yet Cheney feels he and a select few of non-elected appointed yes men should be allowed to run a secret program only they know of? Certainly makes you wonder what was really going on and what we still do not know about. Frightening!

The CIA deals in Top Secret Affairs. Telling Congress what they are up too is like blasting an update on CNN about the latest espionage and spy's we have. What a joke! Leave the CIA alone as they've probably saved more American lives over the past 20 years and helped out American interests more than anyone could even guess.

get with the times. the people that want to bring this country down don't care about your constituitonal rights...they want to kill you stupid. So let someone have half a chance to stop them. Stop living in your small town world and do some traveling and see what's out there. You'll change your mind when you see reality.

Darth Cheney, leader of the repressive, yet unrelenting Empire, strikes a blow against freedom and the American Way. Unbeknownst to those he seeks to undermine, he has cast a spell upon them so they have become his feebleminded followers and blindly pledge allegence to him. They believe he speaks the truth, regardless of the fact that he has deceived them and takes away their freedom, which they mindlessly ignore. Fortunately, the light has returned to the world, the chains of oppression have been broken, and the sinister Darth Cheney has been banished to dwell in the dark pages of American history where he belongs forever and ever!

Do not be so naive as to believe only the "bad guys" information is being monitored and stored for later use. Joe Stalin also listened in on his countrymens conversations in the name of finding the enemies of the state. Do we really want to keep company with Stalin?

Dick Cheney is THE most patriotic american to come along since the korean War. If he thinks we need a deep covert operation he should be given free rein. This story is just the NY Times digging deeper and deeper to try find something to show Dick in a bad light. If anyone needs to be wiretapped it is the entire building at the NY Times. More sedition occurs there than anywhere else in America.

Thanks Bush and Cheney for doing all you could to keep us safe!! A released Gitmo Terrorist is now a Taliban leader in Afghanistan killing our troops. Hello!!! These Radical Islam Fundamentalists have vowed to destroy western cultures. We need more leaders who have the balls to step up to these terrorists & not aplogize. I bet the unfortunate 9/11 families wish these measures were approved earlier. God Bless these families, my heart goes out to you!!

Unnamed sources and a mispresentation of the "new" program
It never even got off the ground so why tell anyone about it?
Protecting us the the federal goverments only job. Let them do it and use what they need.
Whatever was done, it was because of 9/11 not a power grab.
Thank you Bush and Cheny for doing what needed to be done.
As for the morons comments on here who are not US citizens and seem to be concerned now about American's civil rights.....SCREW OFF!

I don't understand...the liberal media goes on and on about what a clown Cheney is and how badly he and George droped the ball. NOW they want us to believe he was that smart and actually had that kind of clout ? Which is it or is just which ever one gets the most headlines ? I don't care about Cheney..he is history.

Dick Cheney, a fat white pig, honed his EVIL skills a long, long time ago. If you couldn't smell the stence of this EVIL in 2000, you wouldn't be able to smell dung, even if you stepped in it. This freaking white pig successfully mass murdered innocent Iraqi women, children and BABIES and still has the support of his worshippers. Shows the "intelligence" of so called americans. The French knew this son of a bitch was EVIL from the getgo. Unfortunately, it's too late to be concerned cause this pile of crap has completed his EVIL deeds.

Wholly crap! Cheney a Patriotic American? You must be a McCarthy fan as well! Has history not proven McCarthyism was hysteria run amok in the name of the American way? Or do you still believe we would all be red commies now had the "great American" McCarthy not been such a patriot!

djll47, with respect, when you advocate for giving one guy free reign, nothing but trouble can follow. Whether you support Cheney or not, that much power in the hands of one man is not good. That is why we have three branches of government. It's called checks and balances. Beyond that, remember that absolute power corrupts absolutely. Cutting corners across the United States constitution does NOT make Mr. Cheney a patriot.
