Vatican praises 'Potter'

Mighty nice of the Vatican to recognize the Potter books for what they are...epic and entertaining tales of good v. evil.

So the Pope is giving the thumbs up to a story about a student of witchcraft and wizardry? Last time I checked, such things were against the teachings of the Bible...

I agree with David G. As Christians, we should not appalaud or condone anything that has to do with what God dislikes. What a way to confuse those who are not sure about the teaching of the bible.

This is shameless hype for the final movie installment: "Lord Valdemort vs. The Pope". In this one, the Popemobile can morph into a supersonic jet fighter, ala the X-Men’s Blackbird, and the Pope’s skills as a Nazi anti-aircraft gunner are showcased.

harry potter does not need any kind of appraises from the freakin vatican its a great story for kids i like to put a spell on them what happen to all those kids who got spells put on them by bunch dumb ass priests. oh i forgot they like young boys with older men

I have not seen the movie yet but seen the others. Well, the Bible is right. We should not judge the movie yet unless we have seen it. Some people don't want to see it because they think all Harry Potter movie's have witch craft in it. What is really bad is the witch craft. If you don't want your children to see this then don't let them. See for yourself 1st. Read the book too if you are a reader.

All you have to do is read them and you know it's more about good verses evil than it is about witches and witchcraft. It cracks me up all those who criticisized them and wanted them banned NEVER even read any of them. I have them all and read them over 4-5 times. I like to read the entire series every summer and have given them to my grandkids, bought them wands and scarves, Harry Potter candy, videos,and other Harry Potter stuff.I never found anything questionable about any of the books. If it gets kids to read, what's wrong with it. It's not teaching them witchcraft, it's teaching them good from bad and good over evil.

ok for all of the people who are like freaking out bout the vatican approving harry potter who is after "evil" or the bad guys just think about moses he did "miracles" for good. so if your condeming the vatican for praising potter for fighting evil in the name of all things good then your condeming moses who was a person who did "miracles"

Oh my gosh. It's not teaching witchcraft. Have you ever taken the time to read the books? I never saw a big stink over the TV series "BEWITCHED" or 'I DREAM OF JEANIE", or other science fiction type series. . It's fiction, make believe, fairytales. Get a grip. Kids can tell the difference from reality and make believe. Sometimes I think the kids are smarter than these adults making these stupid remarks without even reading the books in the first place. They teach about good over evil...not teaching kids witchcraft. I am a Christian and have read them all. Use the common sense God gave you before you condemn them.

This is great. The Pope is praising a fantasy story while the Prez is winning hearts & minds in downtown Africa. I think I'll forget about trying to find a job, teach my anus to speak spanish and start a traveling Punch & Judy show for illegal immigrant children. Allright!

THESE ARE PG-13 RATED MOVIES...WHICH MEANS DON'T TAKE THE YOUNG IMPRESSIBLE KIDS OR TEENS TO SEE THE HARRY POTTER SERIES. I DON'T EVEN LIKE MOST PG-13 MOVIES FOR THE SO CALLED "ADULT" CONTENT.

if you dont read harry potter because the bible, or say its wrong, grow up. Its a book. its written words of someones imagination. if you dont like it then keep it to yourself because noone cares. hey by the way guess what? the bible is a book. written words by a MAN, not GOD.

The vatican paper isn't the only one. This movie is getting RAVE reviews. I haven't read a bad review yet. And it's got a 98% rating on Rotten tomatoes. I know I can't wait to see it! I got my tickets two weeks ago and all the theaters in my town are sold out. It's going to be AWESOME!

So when does the vatican movie come out?

Superstition and magical-thinking are the hallmarks of religions. Naturally magical themes are appealing to the supertstitious. As for notions of "Good and Evil" they hail from primitive Sun/Moon worship and those beliefs were incorporated into most modern religions as they emerged. The dichotomy of "Good vs Evil" is a man-made invention that emerged from Sun/Moon worship and from the Master/Slave paradigm. Christ and other men of philosophical perspective warned mightily against "Good vs. Evil" concepts. Even the bible warns against that primitive concept but that dichotomy has been used by religious organizations for 2000 years to "farm" the flock and keep them fearful, reduced and easily manipulated: "And the Lord God commanded the man saying, “you may freely eat of every tree of the garden; but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall die.” (Genesis 2:16-17)

I can't believe that the vatican even commented on this knowing the controversy that these books created. Has their been any input from other branches of the church?

For some reason its hard for me to picture the Pope in a theater with a tub of popcorn, watching Harry Potter Movies.... Odd to say the least.
