Retailers report weak June sales (AP)

Escalating job worries and rainy weather dampened shoppers' appetite for buying summer staples like shorts and dresses, resulting in sharper-than-expected sales declines for many merchants in June and increasing concerns about the back-to-school shopping season. » Full Story on Yahoo! Finance

You mean they actually had to do a retail sales report to figure this out? Unemployment is going through the roof. People are losing their homes. Do you really think that people have all kinds of extra money to blow on junk? I'd say foremost on people's minds right now is putting food on the table and a roof over their heads.

Obama and the Democratic-controlled Congress have already increased tobacco taxes — which disproportionately hit the poor — to pay for extending health coverage to 4 million children in working low-income families. And how many of these are illegals?

Paying for Obama's agenda might be easier, Steuerle said, if the nation wasn't already facing massive federal budget deficits for the foreseeable future.
"The dilemma is trying to do the new while the old is still unpaid for," Steuerle said.

Wow! Steurle sounds like the voice of reason. Where'd he come from?

Well now doesn't that break my rotten heart ? Weak June sales ? why the hell does the rain have anything to do with it ? Call it for what it is ! No one is spending any money because no one has any money and those that do are saving it for the further decline of the economy

Retail sales are always slowest in June and July due to Vacations. Add on the horrible economy and unemployment and there you go. "Back to school" traditionally picks up in August and then down again due to no "Retail holidays" until Halloween then Christmas in December. Do some sales data research for almost any retail company and it will show the same declines at the same times of year, every year. But we should panic because Yahoo! Finance said so.

So much for the so-called stimulus boondoggle. Every Obama policy has been a miserable failure. Now they want you to believe Cap and Trade and Health care will not be miserable failures like all the other failed policies like cap and tax.

Batton down the hatches people. With Obamas poll number tanking(Look at Rasmussen) and unemployment skyrocketing, expect fresh attacks from the libs and the liberal media on anything conservative. . Expect Rush Limbaugh to be pushed out front again. Probably expect the Bush witch hunts to start up again. Expect heavy Bush bashing from all posters. Expect bashing anything Conservative.

There is absolutely no good news to report on Obama's absolutely dismal policies so far so this is what you can expect. They need for the lazy welfare leaches can get free health care so expect a lot of news to distract from Obamas miserable policies.

I'd like to know where those middle class tax breaks are Obama said he'd be giving us. I haven't seen any difference in my payday, and I work pretty much every day. Still, with what I make, I don't have the money to go and buy anything nice or anything, and keeping food in the fridge is becomming an even bigger problem.

No stimulus relief on this end of the world. Thank goodness I grow my own vegetables and that saves a little on produce costs; but hardly enough. I see no end to this insanity in sight; and the price of gasoline is simply criminal.

Now they want a second stimulus package and that's just insanity at its finest. The people runnin this country act like they came out of a holler head or something. Naturally, retail sales are going to suffer but not just retail: Restaurants, motels, amusement parks, etc. We're all suffering the pinch right now.

If they pass another stimulus package I don't think it's going to go all too good for the ones who sign it. People are gettin tired of this bologna, and our representatives in Washington just can't seem to figure that out.

Anyone that thinks this current group in Congress, along with the illegal FED is going to fix the economy, is delusional. Prosperity in the US has ended, unless we throw these bums out, and get representatives of the people, for the people.

Government is not the solution to our economic situation. They are the problem. Their interference is making matters worse. This whole problem began with Government interference in the private sector, with the sub-prime mess. You can thank Clinton, Bush and Obama for forcing banks to lend to totally unqualified people so they could own a home. Now Barney Frank, who had a lot to do with this, along with Chris Dodd, wants to lower standards to receive a mortgage even lower.

Private sector business people would be in jail for what the Government is doing. We need to dump them all and reclaim our freedom and Country, with limited Government.

2010 dump Congress
2012 Dump Barry the blamer

Ahhhh, I'm just so sad that the chick crap isn't selling very well. I'm heartbroken that overpriced "trendy" garbage is finally sitting on the shelves. Endless marketing to women and wasteful spending has created a bubble. I was ecstatic when "Linens 'n crap" went out of business. The media basically only caters to women, so they don't keep a running total of all the chick stores that are thankfully gone. It's getting to be a lot. It's a shame that it took a deep recession for Americans to begin to get their priorities straight again. I think this recession will have to drag on for a while if there's any hope of humbling the ultra arrogant American culture of selfishness, debt, spending, "fashion," vanity, waste, and similar idiocy. I loved that malls were hit hard. GOOD! Malls are overpriced idiot magnets. Men are not allowed any real equivalent to women's malls.

Most men, until the recession, had to just sit there as the wife/gf shopped, and wasted, and racked up debt. Will this recession put men BACK as heads of their homes? I expect the marketplace to always be 99% marketed to women unless America is REALLY smacked upside the head
