Government Web site says Madoff at prison in Ga. (AP)

Disgraced financier Bernard Madoff was being held in a federal prison in Atlanta Tuesday after his transfer from a New York lockup, according to a Bureau of Prisons Web site. » Full Story on Yahoo! Finance

He should not be allowed to spend his life in a "country club" prison. He ruined too many people's lives.

Madoff is going to a low security facility with a hospital close by so he will have the best the federal government can offer. This is an outrage, he should be put in a small cell in a typical federal prison after the pain and suffering he has forced on people. You know he will end up with a cell phone and computer and he will have contact with his associates. This is not justice - it is how the wealthy get treated when they break the law. If anyone else were to scam people out of a fraction of the money he did - they would get time in the big house not the small house.

It is not the 150 years that I was hoping for - I was wanting him to go into the general population and experience a punishment for fitting his crime.

Nobody minded when this guy was sending them impossibly fat dividend checks. Nobody questioned his ability to deliver anomalous returns no matter the market. Those who invested with Madoff didn't see these things as strange or as red flags that should have made them think that something just wasn't right. They were too busy separating the $50's from the $100's and patting themselves on the back for their incredible financial savvy.

Madoff definitely deserves to sit in prison until the day he dies, and maybe even for a year or two after that (just to make sure), but it is ludicrous for the people he swindled not to accept at least a modicum of responsibility. How old is the adage, “If it seems too good to be true, it probably is…”?

Caveat Emptor.

This man defrauded many people out of their money, and should do jail time but where are the priorities of the movers and shakers in this country? We have Muslim terrorist camps operating on our soil and the government does nothing. They are a threat to all Americans. Must many die before something is done? Thousands of media hours covered Madoff, but where is the coverage of this? Law enforcement say their hands our tied. The Constitution protects these Muslim groups. Can you believe that? What kind of nation have we become?

He'll still live the good life unless the mafia or someone else in fed prison who he stoled from gets his ass first before he dies of old age.

2005: Sen. Charles Schumer, (D-NY) says “…I think Fannie and Freddie over the years have done an incredibly good job and are an intrinsic part of making America the best-housed people in the world …if you look over the last 20 or whatever years, they’ve done a very, very good job.”
2006: Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) again calls for reform. “For years I have been concerned about the regulatory structure that governs Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac … and the sheer magnitude of these companies and the role they play in the marketplace … the GSE’s (government sponsored enterprises) need to be reformed without delay.”
2006: Democrats again block reform legislation.
2008: housing market collapses; Democrats blame the Republicans!

That's strange... It says on the Yahoo page he's in a NC prison.... I'll bet the Son of a bitch gets out on parole before 2020... The rich (or formerly rich) can pull strings with political heads a lot easier than the average Joe ( nearly everyone else). I hope the bastard dies of Sepsis, or a Staph infection. ...what an a******.

All the money Bernie stole was used to buy his way into the Country Club he will be moved into in NY next month. The closest thing to "hard time" he's going to have to endure is having his filet mignon done medium instead of meddium rare. On second thought he's probably also financed his personal chef to work there as well.

we've been had again! Madoff is no fool and already "hooked up", and the media has once again spoon fed us a line. What should've been done was to make him live with the people he ripped off, they are the ones who are suffering! how about 150 years of community service? hey allen m., what's your damage? why don't you put more than.05 percent of your brain and learn another language you lame!!

I wonder if everyone would hate Bernie Madoff if he had screwed over the small guy like car dealers, Mortgage Brokers, and every other business person that makes a profit by lying to someone and making it sound like they are getting a deal but are actually getting taking to the cleaners do. I am willing to say no.
