Australia: Rio detention could hurt China business (AP)

Australian officials said Sunday that China has not given them any evidence to support its detention of an Australian mining executive on spying charges and warned that the affair could discourage foreign companies from doing business there. » Full Story on Yahoo! Finance

All the more reason to stop buying products made in china. their human rights records have not improved. I no longer buy anything made in china and I also try to avoid stores that sell made in china products. I have not shopped in Wal-Mart since 2001 here in Folsom partly because they sell guns and partly because of their continued support of cheap chinese junk

The accusations reflect the communist government's sensitivity about fields such as steel and energy that it deems strategic and its intense secrecy about a wide array of economic and industrial information.

Rio expressed surprise at the spying allegations and said Friday it is "committed to high standards and business integrity." It said Chinese authorities have not given the company any details about the case.

Employees of the China Iron & Steel Association, the iron ore price negotiator for Chinese steel mills, are also under investigation, the newspaper 21st Century Business Herald reported. It said an executive who oversaw iron ore purchases for one of China's biggest steel producers, Shougang Group, was detained last week.

TIME TO TURN OUR STEEL MILLS ON...FULL SPEED AHEAD!

This is rediculars. It's their own law enforcement action like we have here in the U.S. so tell me what different? Same thing happened here arresting Chinese businessmen accused spying and in Australia also. Why look at it so innormal. It's business like every day happens in every different country. "..hurt Chinese business.." it's crazy idea, business is business and it's two ways. You guys need China, need Chinese consumption and need Chinese money. Don't look at every thing with politics,it's very normal business in this world.

The lesson here is to get your people out of China BEFORE you tell them to go fly a kite. The World's fortune 1000 should be taking serious notes on this situation and scaling back activity with the Chinese. Greed will prevent that, but that is what they should do.

The Chinese do not play the game like westerners. To them stealing, deception, and the like is just being shrewd. Cut off the business with them and send all their nationals right the hell home. The problem is our damn universities want to keep them for the bucks - but, think about it. Much of the countries ills come back to our universities anyway.

They now literally OWN the United States. We OWE them BIG time. We better kiss Chinese @ss. Our Government, BOTH PARTIES, have sold us out top them over the past, and continue to do so. The Government FEARS china, with GOOD reason. We need to cut losses and ties with china about ten years ago. Hell, make it 20 to cover the Clinton years if it makes you conservatives feel better. The point is that china is NOT our friend, and never will be

What's the big deal? Everyone is making a fuss over it. This is just another example of our own wicked and greedy big businesses corrupting other countries' system with bribery and illegal foul plays in order to earn themselves (NOT YOU & ME) big bucks. Don't make it political. Just be patient, and see what the investigation will turn out...
