I hope the Dems continue to hold out, especially to protect the safety net for the disabled and children. There are no jobs for either population and the governor has already cut the little money they get in last years budget.
Decriminalize drug crimes and make grass legal will also help. We don't need people in prison for such crimes and it is making the drug cartels rich while forcing us to build more prisons and staff them.

Here in reality land we call California's problem Bankruptcy and not a Deficit. Year's of deficits have lead to the end of the rope. Its time for California to get off the drug called taxes and go into spending reduction detox or else the other states are going to sell it off to pay for the Obama administration's California style spending.

Maybe those boneheads in Sacramento will figure out that their business unfriendly attitude has forced employers to leave California and take the jobs with them. No jobs no tax payers.

California, the richest state in the USA with the fifth largest economy in the world is broke. This is an oxymoron that is wrapped in a riddle and stuffed in an enigma. Their problems can be reconciled (albeit with great difficulty) and I agree with the first poster not to imprison drug users. These users could be sent to a good Ivy League schools for less money than it takes to keep them in jail. It is not only an injustice it is punitive nonsense. There are many other areas they can adjust in balancing this budget without penalizing those who are most vulnerable. Maybe they should start with a repeal of the property tax cessation that was so rashly implemented back in 1978

California needs to get rid of all their liberals and EPA people that is keeeping this state in the poor house. Everything that Obama is pushing and demanding has been tried in California and in other states and has been dismall failures. The Congress is no different than the CA legislative body in its idiocy. I could care less if CA slid into the pacific and took its problems with them and beleive we'd be better off without them. If they actually pass a budget where they are trying to cut necessary services we should have them all recalled! We are already the highest taxed state in the nation. Look what happened when we all voted down the Propositions on May 19. They still didn't get the message. Bass thinks we stupid voters didn't understand the issues. We passed Prop 187 and liberal judges shot that down. Time to pass a similar proposition. If 187 had been allowed to stand we would have saved $150,000,000,000 by now and would not be in this mess!

Until the California legislature stops paying out more dollars than they take in, the problem will only get worse. Prop 13...it's welfare for homeowners.

Replace it with a simple 1% property tax, ZERO corporate tax, 7% sales tax, and personal income tax of 20% of federal. We would have the same or more revenue, ALL other taxes would be cut, working people and business owners would have far lower taxes....AND business would want to stay here or relocate here.
