New General Motors about to roll off assembly line (AP)

The new General Motors is about to roll off the assembly line as a leaner, greener model, maybe even a profitable one, too. » Full Story on Yahoo! Finance

Just roll them right past me, Government Motors.

I bought a 2008 Silverado last October and love it. It's a 4.3 liter V-6 with an 8' bed, gets reasonably good gas milage and will actually do some work. I have no idea what future GM pick up trucks will be like but you can bet that they won't be like my 2008 Silverado. Translation: They will be grocery getters with 100 hp engines and a 5 foot bed on a 110" wheelbase. They will get 35 MPG but they will be essentially useless. Factor in government ownership, market ignorance, inefficiency and arrogance and that means this customer will NEVER by another GM vehicle. JJM. Manassas, VA.

They will be back in front of Congress asking for more money by early next year because no one will buy a sardine can for 40k. You union thugs are only slitting your own throats cause I am not buying what your selling.

When do I get my dividend check from bailing you out? I'll be waiting and checking the mail daily. The next stimulus check will go directly into government motors as they fail miserably. Run by politicians what do you expect?

We have saved at least some of the jobs and not lost the American automobile industry completely, like we have so many other industries over the last 30 years. We were right to do whatever was necessary to save what was left of US industry.

The critics are all wrong. No other country would let its auto industry collapse and we shouldn't either.

I wouldn't buy a vehicle from "The New General Motors" unless you gave it to me. What's "NEW" about GM? Nothing but the name. Same union freeloading deadbeats, same management, same everything but the name and that was changed only so they could stiff their creditors then turn around and do it again.

As we all know, GM wouldn't know what to do if the company became profitable; the company's dealer groups have been stealing from GM for years and the company doesn’t have a clue or idea to better manage it's dealer groups, it's just a matter of time that this company will go under people are sick and tired of being taken advantage of by an out of control company like GM, the company has "Raped" enough people over the years soon GM you will go bye, bye and it won't be a moment to soon.

"Greener" and "Profitable" are nearly antonymous. Don't get me wrong; I hope it works since we all own stock in it now. But I don't have much "Hope" in this "Change."

Absolutely phenomonal. Here's what you can expect from a govt owned, union ran automobile company. Higher priced, lower quality vehicles. Higher priced because the union is going to give itself extravagant benefits and pay. Lower quality because the union is the land of "It's not my job!'. This is coming from a former UAW / Ford worker.

It may be called New General Motors, but they will still make the same ol' crap. Government Motors coming out of bankruptcy? Ha they stayed in bankruptcy long enough to dump their debts and screwed the suppliers they owed money to. Cheverolet quit making cars when they dumped "Body by Fisher". If I was GM I would be requesting to come off life support and join your buddies (American Motors) on cloud number 9.

And they can just keep rite on rollin here by my house and go on down the road. Nothin in this company has changed except ownership, and they'll still make the same ole junk they've been makin for years on end. They dont have a Lee Iacocca to rescue them like Chrysler did with the mini van, and now they'll keep doin the same ole same ole. I'll never own one and never want to.

lets see what they mean by green machine ? if thats what they truly looking for they should combine a small propane / hydrogen on demand engine w/ generator to power either single electriodynamic motors , like used in locomotive , on each drive wheel or to electrodynamic as differentals lots of power unlimited size vehicle , and still get 80 + mpg , disc brakes in dynamic braking to recharge batteries and of course a battery pack that the generator charges . most time could run off batteries and recharge when needed by generator ! they have technology now have had since WWII .
in a production would eventually pay for its self , look at lap to computers 10 yrs ago . now less than 500 most models !
rid dependency from oil and be economical !

I own an 05 GMC Yukon XL and it is an awesome vehicle...not only can it haul just about everything, but it rides like a dream and gets as good gas mileage as some of the foreign "high mileage" SUVs or trucks. Get's better than EPG guesstimates. Great vehicle. I just hope they keep up the quality. If you don't own a GM, keep your mouth shut. I know there are a bunch of quality vehicles out there...but GM can keep up. Go ahead...look up some history on Buick...some of the best cars no one talks about.
