$240,000 for T-shirt bias suit

Raed Jarrar sued airport officials for discriminating against him by forcing him to cover his T-shirt. » Full Story on Y! Featured

This is absolutely ridiculous this is nothing wrong with racial profiling. These groups create their own profiles, “if the shoe fits”! The ACLU is as much crap as the NAACP and affirmative action!

I guss thats correct, all Muslims are terrorists as all black people are the root of all crime amd all mexicans are only good to garden and all white people are the only ones that make a difference and so on and on. yep, idiots are what make the world a sad,sad place. But then do we just turn the other cheek and let our guard down and take what we get. People in our country have to be sensitive to what has happened to us too. He should have understood that people may overreact to a shirt. Did it really hurt to cover it till he was off the plane? I probably would have but then I would'nt be RITCHER fo it.

if someone proflied you would you be upset? the major point of the story is that even after covering his t-shirt, he had to sit in the back of the plane, even though his seat was in the front. are Muslims now the new black people of old? it seems that American society as a whole has to have someone to look down on. black, native american, mexican, or anyone not of the white race.

The Constitution of the United States of America. Written by our founding fathers, GUARANTEES our citizens FREEDOM OF SPEECH AND EXPRESSION.

ANYTHING LESS IS UNAMERICAN.

Everyone is worried about that the government will turn on them and take their guns. Are you worried that they'll turn on you and take your freedom of speech?

"First they came for the Communists, but I was not a Communist, so I did not speak out. Then they came for the Socialists and the trade unionists, but I was neither, so I did not speak out. Then they came for the Jews, but I was not a Jew, so I did not speak out. And when they came for me, there was no one left to speak out for me." – Martin Niemoeller

I agree that he shouldn't have gotten that much money. Kids in schoolare made to change their shirts at the principal's whim. Happens all the time and no one complains.

But I agree with the verdict.

IF YOU PEOPLE ARE SO OFFENDED BY OUR CONSTITUTION AND THE PROTECTIONS IT OFFERS, LEAVE!

You guys just don't appreciate your freedoms. I'm no expert, but I have a journalism degree and had to take a lot of constitutional law classes. These battles have been fought in the courts for years to PROTECT ***YOUR*** FREEDOMS.

And who has fought most of these battles? THE ACLU!

They've done as much for your freedoms as the soldiers have. I mean that in a very real since. I say that as the son of a Vietnam Vet who did two tours over there as a helicopter pilot.

To bash the ACLU is to bite the hand that gives you freedom.

The ACLU is not a 'liberal' organization, they are a 'freedom' organization. They have fought many, many cases for the KKK, protecting their right to have rallies and speeches.

Well I took a look at the ACLU web page and did not see anything I agreed with on their page. Every story is providing stupid people privileges they don’t deserve. One story that caught my eye was the ACLU trying to overturn Arkansas ban on gay couples adopting. This was voted on by the good people of Arkansas and they ban it. One Nation Under God and In God We Trust does not provide for there to be gay couples. There is nothing Godly about homosexuals, the ACLU helping the KKK, and I guaranty no black person would want a big skin head near them were a shirt saying “ill shoot a nig##r”.

I think anyone who thinks he deserves the money is thinking in his selfish way. It probably didnt bother him about the tshirt. He wore to get a rise out of someone and succeded. You are allowed freedom in this country, but certain things are also not allowed. That was not in violation of freedom. He got what he wanted. Go to his country and do that i bet you wouldnt be rewarded. The Airline and the people on the plane should get a reward from him for pain and suffering

I do believe in free speech, but an apology would have been sufficient. I am offended by the ACLU and this story - is anyone going to give me $240,000?

i believe in free speech too, but hello. the thought had to have crossed this guy's mind that they would make something out of it. for all i know he wanted to sue somebody.
it's just ridiculous. and its sad that people get to sue for that reason. i say apologize and then go toss him on his butt. i honestly dont think he was that offended, he just wanted quick cash.

We can complain about our rights of FREEDOM as Americans all we want, this is a free country and all, but there comes a point when safety plays a huge part in remaining free. We complain about security when there are actual threats out there. I thank the men and women who are just trying to keep America safe. There's always someone out there who will argue that someone else is wrong, but better to be safe than sorry.

This guy gets $240,000.00 over a stupid T-shirt, and we've got people living on the streets and kids who don't have coats and shoes. Something is very, very wrong here.

This should not have ended in just giving Raed Jarrar $240k; there are thousands of Raed Jarrar's that are harrassed every day because of their religion, race or skin color in America even today.

The FBI officers and the JetBlue employee who harrassed Mr. Jarrar should have faced consequences of their actions. Maybe if they made them pay Mr. Jarrar that sum of money it would have been just.

We need strict law to protect the freedoms in this country, people like those FBI officers and that JetBlue employee must be taught a lesson to respect these freedoms.

if your under the racial profiling umbrella i.e. muslim and you wear a shirt that says "we will not be silent" right before you get on a plane, of course you should be asked to remove it, everyone of you who commented on this saying it was racial profiling are right, it is, but if you were about to get on a plane and saw a guy wearing that you would be sweating bullets the whole plane ride. Don't say you wouldn't because you would

I really don't think he should have been given THAT much money, but he should have been compensated for obvious and blatant discrimination.

I don't care what group protects whose rights; if they commit an act of injustice they will pay for it.

Just because you do not agree with someone's opinion or speech does not mean you have the right to suppress it. There are hundreds, if not THOUSANDS of things I do not agree with but I want everyone to have the right to say them, as long as nothing hateful is acted upon.

You all are missing th BIG picture. IF, a Christian or Jew were on a Saudi Arabian airline with a t-shirt that said "We will not be silenced", they would be dragged from that plane and punished, imprisoned or fined. There is no "we will sue you" or I'm being profiled". So why would anyone stick up for a religous group that takes atvantage of our country while repressing those over there in their country. WAKE UP PEOPLE! IT'S NOT COLOR OR RACE...IT'S RELIGOUS! THEY WANT THE U.S, AND SHI'RIA LAW!

Sorry but muslim terrorist organizations and individuals screwed it up for people who want to wear t-shirts with Arabic writing on it on American planes. You just can't wear shirts with Arabic writing on aircraft today that says, 'we will never give up.' If you want to blame someone blame the muslim terrorists who flew planes into the twin towers, and the pentagon, and downed a plane in Pennsylvania. He should have been awarded nothing, and given a lesson on how to behave on aircraft where the airlines #1 priority is to keep it's passengers safe. I am going to write a letter to JetBlue and congratulate them for standing up for their safety procedures. You should too.

This guy did what any lawsuit happy person does, file a lawsuit. But since this guy wore his tee shirt I'm going to start wearing mine and if people don't like it OH WELL. Freedom is part of being American, just like freedom of speech. Oh yea one more thing. Does anyone know anyone that is actually white? I'm tan and I know an albino that isn't even close to white. Look at your screens, see the white on your screens? If you know anyone that is that white please let the world know.

Well he should have had enough common sense to see that would bring some problems because of 911. I agree to freedom of speech, but, i think he had enough common sense to wear something else, who is to say maybe he was trying to provoke problems, regardless it's over now.

Kainalu--I see where you are going with this...Most applications that I fill out list your ethnic background...I don't see Tan or Albino on the applications. I am classifed as black even though I am mixed...see the type on YOUR screen...not my color...White is the classification that was given you by YOUR ethnic group...Hello...We've now met...

The clown should have had enough sense to know what to wear on a flight. I would not go to Saudi Arabia and wear some inflammatory saying. If I did I would expect to get dragged off the plane and beaten, not given 240 thousand dollars! For God's sake people, we are at war! If you pink sheep don't want to admit it then you deserve what you get. Look at the 9/11 hijackers. They were ALL middle eastern males, not blonde, not old. Yes, we have civil liberties in American and I thank God for that, but there are limits. I agree, all real Americans need to write Jet Blue and thank them for having a spine. And God bless George Bush and God help us all after January 20th!

Since when are clothes freedom of speech?

Should he also be allowed to wear a shirt than says "I have a gun?"

How about an astronaut suit? Or some cowboy chaps and spurs? That way he could express himself as the career he always wanted, or express his pride in the American West. Get real. Our forefathers didn't have t-shirts in mind when they were writing the Constitution.

But today's liberals can take ANYTHING and twist it as a violation of RIGHTS, SPEECH, FREEDOM. What about if he justed wanted to wear a swimsuit an snorkel on the flight? Is it his god-given right?

He knew what he was doing and got paid - he knew it would be controversial, that some reason to sue would be provided to him via a request made by the airline to move or cover up. He'd find a nice liberal lawyer to take the case an off they go to the bank.

People in American now can make there own rules, sue when anyone objects and get awarde by the liberal courts.
