I taught Regina biology when she was in the 10th grade at Fairhope High School in the 70's during the early years of integration. She was an escellent student, beat the odds to complete medical school and has been an excellent doctor, interested in helping the poor rather than becoming rich. I can't thick of a better candidate and I don't really care what color she is. By the way---I am Caucasian.

I think that The President is a racist ass. Due to you look all the nominees that he has appointed with the offices they are all black or Mexican. Look at the Attorney General Black. The supreme court Judge is Mexican. Now the Surgeon General is also Black. Well damn that don't surprise me. Everyone he has appointed has been black or Mexican. I think it is a great choice and although I am sorry to hear about all the tragedies in her family this is what would make her a great Surgeon General. We need more regular people in the government who know what hardship is all about.

Would be nice if we could get beyond the race and gender issues and look at qualifications. When you look at the vast majority of the President's nominees, they are white and male. Why do the last two draw so much attention, because they happen to be female and non-white. What are the qualifications to be Surgeon General? Seems like a good place to start a discussion.

Cabinet members as well as judges should be elected positions not appointees.
