That's the idea behind the invitation extended to the New York Philharmonic to visit Cuba, a country just 90 miles from Florida but with no diplomatic ties to the U.S. (The U.S. government has given the… » Full Story on Yahoo! Buzz Log

This is a great idea. Music and the arts in general, say much about the societies that produce and support them. They can provide a common ground for building relations personally and nationally.

You mean they get to go, but the government will not allow me to go. Our government, not theirs.

Do not expect a return visit of the Havana Philharmonic to NYC, the Cuban government would never take the chance that the entir string section would ask for asylum.

I am elated that this is happening.

For years, the music of cuba has actually been banned in this country due to political reasons. Much of the sheet music that musicians have sought to buy has been impossible to obtain. And universities have politically cropped mention of the great Cuban/Latin composers from their texts and teaching.

Music should always be universal.......a way to communicate, to learn, without boundaries. Bravo!!
