Brazil: Senegal took control of Air France flight

Lead French investigator Alain Bouillard made the accusation during the first public report on the June 1 crash in the Atlantic ... » Full Story on USATODAY.com

The same this has happened a few times recently with Airbus instrumentation and fly-by-wire (FBW) systems. The pitot tubes either ice over (malfunction in the heater system?) or there is a fault in the pressure-to-digital control circuitry in the airspeed electronics. This happened on a Northwest flight last week but the pilot was able to recover from the fault (it actually happened twice on the flight) and land safely in Tokyo. When the airspeed indicator malfucntions, it throws of the computer logic to the FBW systems and can cause the aircraft to go out of control. Just one more reason for buy American (Boeing).

There is also a serious conflict of interest with this investigation since Airbus is subsidized by the French government and the French government is doing the investigation. They're obviously not going to release any findings that would put their aircraft manufacturing company profitability in jeopardy.

The so called photos of the doomed flight taken by a passenger before it crashed are B.S. The are actually photos from the crash scene from the TV show LOST. It makes for a good story though!

The Airbus fell out of the sky, hit the water, and caused many deaths.

Does it really matter if it went in vertically, horizontal, upside down, sideways, backwards or forwards or at a 75 degree angle, etc. . . .

ROFLMAO! It doesn't matter how it hit....IT HIT!!!!

Pilot upon takeoff..... "Put your head between your knees and kiss your ass goodbye! Thank you for flying Airbus!"

ColorMeBad: Absolutely! It's sort of like choosing between death by fire or death by drowning. At the end of the day, you're STILL DEAD. There is only ONE way to avoid being killed in a plane crash -- DON'T FLY!!!

99% of airliner crashes are pilot error which often times include controlled flight in to terrain. Until they can prove it wasn't the pilots in error, I will hold off my judgement.

I think it's very sad that people use this forum for insensitive and uncaring comments....What if their spouse, children or a member of their family had been on that flight ???....God help them......

The hit vertically that is so weird even if there was no one at the controls planes are designed to automatically even out when they reach low altitude. It sounds like foul play may have been involved.

I don't know if it were foul play and I am interested to find out what really happened. People need to know what happened to their families.

They say air travel is safer than road, yet when a tragedy hits there's a lot of unexplained deaths. I can't comprehend losing someone this way.

I don't see where it matters whether the plane hit vertically or not. they are all dead

Well, if you still want to get onboard an Airbus, think about this:
Yemeni Airbus 310 went down with 142 passengers and a crew of 11 Yemenis on board, but too early to speculate on cause and flight recorder not yet found.
Abd, our Congress wants to buy them for our Air Force, to replace the KC-135 tankers. I think I'd rather fly in a 30 year old 135, myself.

once along time ago in utah the 70s a small plane hit the salt flats straight down we went out for the rescue. the planes wings were on the top of the flats the cockpit was 25-30 feet into the mud . no survivors. to this day no one knows why. they were all dead before they knew it. no pain.

Think about this....If the people did not have life vests on, could it be they were not told there was a problem because the plane was puposely plunged straight down. I cannot think of a reason the auto-pilot would plunge an aircraft nose first into the ground no matter what mixed signals it was recieving. And no mayday from the pilots while it was happening?I am most likely wrong but it give pause for thought.

My greatest fear is this same type fatal air crash. You know you're going to crash all the way down and you can see it happening. Those people must have suffered heartbreaking last moments. It's just too much to think about.
God Bless them.

I have seen how Boeing planes are built and tested. Even when the 737 lost it's top in Hawaii, it still landed safely. Boeings are built beyond spec and have survived in times when others would have disintegrated. (727 that went past Mach 1) Even when a Japanese Pilot kept slamming the tail on the ground (747), it took a long time before the plane finally lost its tail. Give me Boeing anytime. Airbuses crash regularly at air shows too.
